Forum Time Stamps

Postby PaulD » Sat 24 Nov, 2007 1:04 am

Today I've just noticed (don't know if this is an old phenomenon that I hadn't noticed before, or if this is something new) that there is a two-hour difference in the time stamps on the index pages depending upon whether or not I am signed in to the forum.

When signed in, the time is correct; when not signed in, the time stamps indicated are two hours later. I am in the US Pacific time zone (-8); when not signed in, the times indicated are those for the US Central (-6) zone. These are Standard Times, we are not in the daylight savings period of the year. And yes, my profile is correctly set to -8, and the computer clock is set to the same.

Hello Paul,

When users are not signed in, the time displayed is the server time.

The default time zone used in SillyDog701 is the server time, which is physically located in Houston, TX.

Members can set up the timezone in Profile and Preferences page. However, the software does not have daylight saving automatically adjusted.

Ah so! Thank you.
But that raises a 'why' question: You are down under, why the server in the US? Or is this Australian humor for an Aussie to have a slave in America? 8-)

It's far more economic to have the server hosted in the US, and the connection speed is usually better for the *world*.
