Epson AcuLaser C1100N not picking up paper

Postby Antony » Fri 08 Feb, 2008 9:49 am

Hello there,

My Epson AcuLaser C1100N suddenly not working today. The panel keeps saying "Jam MP E" which means paper jamming in MP (multipurpose tray) or E (back door), however, I've checked those doors numerous times and couldn't find any paper jamming.

Then, I noticed that the paper input tray does not picking up paper. Does anyone have any suggestion on this? (Before I call Epson on Monday. The machine is still under warranty.)

No specific answer, just a couple of thoughts -
1. Re: Jam message - Is there a way to completely open up the paper path? It is possible that there is either a small piece of torn-off paper stuck somewhere, or that a micro-switch has become jammed.
2. Re: Input tray - My (early '90's) laser printer sometimes doesn't 'suck up'(?) the paper from the tray. Reasons: paper humidity/dryness/curl; supply sheets not under a little hold-down arm/tab; 'sucker-upper' (or feed roller friction?) beginning to fail.

Thank Paul.

I was every to clear the message each time by simply opening the back door (E) and closing it. Then when I start to print again, the message comes up again.

I noticed that the "mechanical thing" did not come down to pick up paper from the tray when trying to print.

I will try to see if I can open up the printer more to see if there's really a paper jam.

Thanks again.

Another thought - Does the printer have a manual feed capability? Or is this related to the 'back door' reference?

Manual feed is customarily needed for heavy stock paper, envelopes, labels, etc. It could be tedious, but at least you would get some printing done. In any program that is doing the printing you may have to change a printing option from 'paper tray' to 'manual feed', or equivalent.

Thanks for the help, PaulD.

My laser printer is now fixed.

The problem was that the roller was out of alignment.

I called Epson Service yesterday (Monday) afternoon, and a technician arrived this morning. All he did was to re-align the roller (for catching paper).

Pretty quick warranty service I have to say.

Forgot to mention, the printer has been under heavy usage for home office. Between Laurent and I, we've printed 9025 pages all together (according to printer's status sheet). The printer was bought on [sdp=84560]1st May[/sdp] last year. You can work out the average prints per day ;-)

Manual feed double-side printing is counted as two pages.
