Quicktime 7 Pro - Exporting MPEG-4 but no sound!!!

Postby niffer7786 » Mon 26 Mar, 2007 4:00 pm

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have several videos that are in MPEG-4 format, and when I try to export them using Quicktime 7 to any file format (usually AVI or .mov), my new file has no audio! When I hit export from the File menu and hit Options, the space for Audio is gray and not accessible. It's like my videos have no audio track, yet there IS audio because I can hear it.

I don't know much about this stuff, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen

What's the audio codec used in the input files? Is it raw (PCM) audio or something else?

What was the codec in the original file?
If it is MUXed (multiplexed) (e.g. MPEG2 muxed), then you will need to split the streams. Squared 5's MPEG Streamclip is a popular tool for Mac users. (free)

Antony, thanks for that tip; it worked great. I spent $30 on QT7 Pro for nothing.

If I may ask another in this thread, what's the best way to extract a portion of a video?

You use QuickTime Pro as easy as copy and paste.

Simply move the playhead to the desired frame, and select the part of the movie you want (or you don't want).

Then from Edit (menu), Copy, Cut, Delete, or Trim to Selection.

Once you have composed (or arranged the movie), you can export the movie to the desired file. H.264 format is recommended.

Antony, thanks once again. I ended-up using Photoshop Extended CS3, but in QuickTime Pro, I can hear the sound-- even better! So my purchase is once again justified. :)
