"Crunching" for Rice

Postby richard mitnick » Mon 19 May, 2008 1:54 pm

World Community Grid ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org ) has a very important new project for Rice, called, as one might guess, "Nutritious Rice for the World". Rice is the main food staple for over half of the world's population, and there is not enough of it.

The goal of the project, certainly spelled out better on its web site than here, is to help farmers grow more and better rice.

The project team also has erected a really cool screen saver.

All of these projects are non-profit, and all of the knowledge gained goes into the public domain.

I urge you, plead with you, beg beg beg you, take a look at this project, and maybe some of the other projects at WCG and at BOINC ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu ).

sounds like a good initiative. I like the idea of donating 'unused' idle computer time to helping others.
