Apple has announced the long anticipated next generation iPhone - iPhone 3G. The iPhone 3G features all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast as the first generation iPhone, and only half of the cost.

iPhone 3G comes with built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

iPhone 3G will also take the advantage of MobileMe service, a new Internet service that pushes email, contacts, and calendars to native applications on iPhone, iPod touch, Macs and PCs.

In the US the new iPhone 3G is priced at USD199 for the 8GB model, and just USD299 for the 16GB model.

iPhone 3G will be available in more than 70 countries later this year, beginning with customer availability in 22 countries—Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US—on 11th July 2008.

I'm actually surprised Optus and Vodafone have the 3G iPhone in Australia, not Telstra. =\
Oh well, at least I won't have to change phone providers :D

The news/rumour says Telstra has not yet given up on selling iPhones.

Since I am with Vodafone currently, I am less care about Telstra.

Telstra has confirmed to sell iPhone 3G on 11th June. And has released the price plan.

The cheapest iPhone 3G starts at AU$279 on a $30 plan for 24 months.

News source: Telstra announces Australian iPhone prices (News.com.au, 30 June 2008)

No price information from Vodafone and Optus yet. Both Vodafone and Optus are said to sell iPhone 3G outright (without a contract).

Australia might be the only country to have three carriers to sell iPhone 3G.
