Greetings ...

Anyone having cookie troubles with Firefox? All of a sudden I'm having to clear out all cookies on each browser session and re-log-into everything.

One example: during a session I log-into YAHOO Mail, log out, then close the browser without clearing the cookies. Then I re-start the browser, try to log-in to Yahoo Mail, and get thrown back to the Yahoo Log-in screen. When the Yahoo cookie is removed, I can log-in OK. But I have to do this ALL THE TIME.

Another example: I will log into CLASSMATES.COM, stay logged in, end the browser session. Then later I start a browser session, click-on CLASSMATES and get a BAD REQUEST message which points specificly to a cookie!

Oh, and some similar troubles occurred when trying to log into SIllyDog - yeeks!

If push comes to shove, I will un-install FireFox and all extension-theme elements, then start over. If I go that way, will re-installing Firefox 2.00.16 circumvent the problem?

Meanwhile, have found at least one online bulletin board article which seems to be about the same issue. And glances at various other locations seem to confirm that this is a major issue.

I have three Firefox. 2.0.0.16 and 3.0.1 each with their own profile, plus Firefox portable3.0.1 which does not take the usual profile set up. None has ever given me a problem, unless I, badly, messed up.
I don't even know how to work going back and forth with versions, and using thee same profile all along. I would start from scratch with 3.0.1, leaving the installation alone, but creating a new profile.

I have similar cookie problems so it's not just you. Some sites (i.e. Beliefnet, ERR, Worldcrossing) force me to log in each time I come and other sites (like this one) let me in without issues. Hopefully this bug will be cleared up soon. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm slowly becoming dis-enamored with Firefox and increasingly find myself heading over to IE which has so far presented no such problems.

Have just found a solution - albeit a temporary one.

Go to the FireFox Profile folder, which is ...

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default

UserName = Your computer profile name ... xxxxxxxx.default = that folder's name

Now look for the cookies.sqlite file. Either change its name or delete it - just that one file.

Once the file is gone, Firefox will start storing and retaining cookies properly again. Of course, you'll have to re-enter all your log-in info at various sites.

This is in all likelihood a temporary soultuion, as eventually the cookies.sqlite file may again get corrupted, at which point you would need to delete it and start over once more.

That would suggest that the cookies file is corrupted. I have so few logins saved that I would never know.
This new format is causing more problem than anyone expected, but the that I am doing things, I would never know. Thanks, for the observation

Right you are. When you keep taking out bad cookies, and then you still have problems, that means something's up with the file itself.

Not all the cookies stored were bad, but over time they might have become corrupted as well.

Later today, I will do this. Delete the cookie file again, re-start Firefox, log-into the Top 20-30 sites I visit, then SAVE the cookie file under a different name. If trouble occurs, I'll just copy the saved file over.

That's a pain, but I never have problem with cookies. They are drop there from the site whether you login or not. I, periodically, purge my cookie list, getting rid, generally, of ad cookies.

Sometimes it helps to remove cookies after each session. I know SeaMonkey has options to keep all cookies until the end of the current session or for 90 days.

Do you, seriously, think that if the pattern is constant, i.e. that some sites force you to log in, and others don't, that it is a Firefox bug? To me, it would appear to be a case that a site is set up for IE, and not for Firefox. This is a common problem, and few sites, now, are like that.
But there are still some lazy ones which do not accept the existence of Firefox.

Yes, I seriously think Firefox has some issues. I'm not of the belief that Firefox is a perfect piece of software and I'm hoping that they improve it. The reason I say this is simple: when I was using version 2 of Firefox, I had no issues logging into these sites... the same ones that now give me problems.
