Don't leave your laptop unattended even with Kensington Lock

Postby Antony » Tue 26 Aug, 2008 10:23 am

Kensington lock a well known lightweight lock system designed to secure notebooks and peripherals. Most laptops come with the Kensington security slot.

Not talking about cutting the Kensington cable with wire cutter or force ripping the Kensington lock off (leaving a mark on the laptop). The traditional Kensington lock (with keys) is not so secure as it can be easily outsmarted (unlocked) in less then 1 min with toilet tube and Gaffa tape.

Here's the video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 5814&hl=en

The security locks that use numeric combination may be a bit safer.

I remember seeing somebody at Defcon a couple years back demonstrating that the same thing could be done with a pen and toilet tube. I'll see if I can dig out the video and post it.
