incomming msgs going to trash folder

Postby LARRYB » Wed 05 Nov, 2008 9:52 pm

My wifes computer has 2 email accounts set up.

One account the mail works great, but the second account all incoming emails are going directly into the trash folder. I have compaired the properities settings for both accounts and they are the set up the same.

I have looked at the junk mail settings and cannot find how to tell SM that incoming msgs are not junk.

Any ideas??

You have to check the general settings in Edit|Preferences|Mail|Junk settings, and click on the reset button, as well as on the Mail and Newsgroups|account name|Junk settings.
I have all mail which I select a Junk go to the Trash folder, but none goes on its own.

I would not rename the Trash to Inbox. I know that if you rename the Inbox to anything else, another Inbox file would be, automatically, created 9there is no rename function, but, rather right click|rename). You would end up with two Inbox files, which is a no-no.
I would, rather, Edit|Mail and Newsgroups|highlight account|remove account. Then create account with same settings as before. You will have a new set of files, and, hopefully, everything will be ok.

Yeah I thought about doing that and see what happens. Also maybe reinstalling SM.

I don't have SeaMonkey, but:
In NS 7 there is Tools> Message Filters
Does SM also have a Filters function?

It does have a filtering system. I have checked to make sure it is set correctly.

Reinstalling the program is, rarely, of any use. My suggestion, after eliminating the filters as the source of the problem, is to recreate the account, as I said before, secondly is to create a new profile. Reinstalling the program would be dead last.

I agree with you after thinking about it. Reinstalling the program will just copy the profiles and accounts as they were.

"Reinstalling the program will just copy the profiles and accounts as they were."
- Well-ll - what really occurs is that since the pointer to your Profile is untouched, the program just follows the yellow brick road. Again. No copying is performed.

Your initial post refers to both Junk and Trash. These are different folders. And the process that places an email into one of them may be different. Junk can be an adaptive process; Trash is via a filter. Are we treating an incorrect diagnosis?

"I have checked to make sure it ['filtering system'] is set correctly."
- What does 'set correctly' mean? No filters defined? No filters activated?

I concur with Fulvio:
1) Create a duplicate Account. This gives you another shot at bypassing any residual corruption.
NOTE 1: On the original (bad) account, change the setting to 'Leave message on server'. Otherwise an incoming mail will be read in before the new account definition even gets to see it.
NOTE 2: But, any FILTER is across all accounts. Whereas JUNK may be account specific.

If this doesn't work, then it is time to ...
2) Create a new Profile.
