BlueTrack mouse from Mircrosoft

Postby Antony » Fri 12 Sep, 2008 8:01 pm

We've had mouse that was mechanical with rolling ball, then, optical then laser mouse. The cord of the mouse has gone through wireless (mostly RF) to relative new Bluetooth. Microsoft recently announced another new technology on computer mice.

Microsoft has unveiled what it says is the world's most advanced tracking technology.

According to the Microsoft, its BlueTrack Technology allows consumers to take their mice anywhere and work with more surfaces than before. The BlueTrack mouse works on carpet, velvet, rattan mats, hardwood floors, finely polished wood surfaces, and lots more. (Microsoft link)

Blue light allows the sensor to capture a high-contrast image of the surface. For example, the blue light beneficially interacts with fluorescent dyes within the surface to increase the amount of reflected light relative to an infrared laser beam. The physics is similar to the "blue light" used in crime-scene TV shows to examine surfaces for police investigations.
