Seamonkey1.1.12 is out

Postby Fulvio » Wed 24 Sep, 2008 3:21 pm

To parallel the security updates in FF3.0.2 and FF2.0.0.17, Seamonkey1.1.12 has come out.
I installed on top of 1.1.11, skipping removal of third party software, i.e. add-ons

Hi:
I would like to see a good session manager as part of the Mozilla/Seamonkey project. I know that Firefox has a session manager (I use it, and like it) but one that is for Seamonkey.

I understand that there may be a session manager addon . I have searched high and low on the NET, and have not found anything which works like the session manager made for Firefox.

thanks,

You may want to contact the developer of the Firefox add-on.

I first noticed this in 1.1.12, when using Linux and the Modern theme, if you switch between the browser and mail/news screens, you will note that the screen position of the throbber is lower on the mail/news screen than on the browser screen. 1.1.11 was the same way. The positioning on the browser screen is correct, it is incorrect on the mail/news screen.

The screen positioning of the throbber with the Classic theme, is the same on both screens (which is what it should be).

Appears to be a Modern theme issue.

Also occurs with the Windows version.

Firefox versus Mozilla Seamonkey.

Hi:
Sure, I have. There are addons which may work in both Firefox and Seamonkey.
But to tell you the truth the session manager for Firefox will not work with Seamonkey as it is configured.
I understand that there does exist an add on to Seamonkey which can save sessions. I have not found one as of yet.
Any one who knows where a good session manager is, let me know here, appreciate it.

Firefox seems to have the upper hand in new developments and Mozilla=Seamonkey does not have the interest for some reason.

Now, in my experience using both, I like the built in composer/editor which comes with Netscape Navigator, and Mozilla/Seamonkey.
As stated before, I would also like to see Firefox with a built in editor, and not an addon as an outside product.
From some of the things I have read, it seems that the code as it is constructed in Firefox hinders such an editor.

SeaMonkey is developed by it's own team, and is not developed by the Firefox team. Resulting in some lagging in upbringing.

Hi iJohnE:
Sure I know that, and I realize that each one, namely Netscape, Mozilla, Seamonkey, and firefox along with the various others which have branched off, are all developed separately. I have been using these browsers for many years and understand the kinds of support and development they get.
Since these all have been free for almost ever, I and others have asked and sent emails to Microsoft some years ago to let IE be free on the market and develop as Netscape/ Navigator was at that time.
Maybe MS took a hint, since after that, they let IE become more free to the extent it did not cost extra to get and use. I think that was a good move on MS's part, however, I do not believe that MS went far enough. The source code should have been given to the Open Source community as the Netscape products have been, and it would have been, in my opinion, a very good move on MS's part....but they did not see it all that way. I also believe that MS could be farther ahead in the whole software game as far as the OS'es are concerned as well. I am speaking of the dramatic spread and usage of the various Linux OSes out there. Oh.. I know that MS has made some connections with some of the Linux OSes, and I believe that they saw that was the only way to continue in the business for the future. My own points and observation, what ever they are worth.
