New Mac Pro, Mac Mini and iMac

Postby Mandrake » Tue 03 Mar, 2009 11:15 am

The new iMac and Mac Mini really aren't that interesting compared with the Mac Pro. They've got the Geforce 9400M chipset, slightly faster CPUs and so forth.

iMac has 20" or 24" LCD, Core 2 Duo up to 3.06GHz, 2 or 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 1TB HDD and Nvidia or AMD/ATI graphics.

Mac Mini has Core 2 Duo up to 2.26GHz, 1 or 2GB DDR3 memory, up to 320GB HDD and GeForce 9400M graphics.

The new Mac Pro is a really beauty. 8 Cores/16 Threads using the new Nehalem micro-architecture. Intel hasn't even announced the new CPUs that Apple are using in these systems. Nvidia or AMD/ATI graphics, up to 2.93GHz 8 Cores, up to 32GB DDR3 memory etc. What an awesome machine. They'll certainly be charging you a fair amount for one though. The minimum price for the eight core model is $3299 USD. There is also a cheaper model using a single CPU for a more reasonable $2499 USD. There is a wealth of information on the new architecture this system uses at the Intel website.

Again, thanks for starting the thread, Mandrake.

I decided to separate [sdt=15548]iMac[/sdt] and [sdt=15549]Mac mini[/sdt] in two different threads.
