Intel fined record €1 billion on antitrust

Postby Antony » Wed 13 May, 2009 10:17 pm

European regulators have slapped Intel with a record €1 billion (A$1.9 billion) fine for illegal attempts to squeeze out its competitor AMD.

Analysts say the move may help AMD recoup some of the market share lost to its bigger rival over past years, but is not expected to radically transform Intel's tactics.

(...)

The European Commission said the world's largest chipmaker paid computer makers to postpone or scrap plans to launch products using AMD chips, paid illegal rebates to encourage them to use Intel products and paid a retailer to stock only computers with Intel chips.

Intel will appeal.

I think that all of these lawsuits against MSFT are just so much ca-ca.

AMD works with code licensed from Intel.

Real Audio, the last big suer, their software rides on Windows.

So, they both bite the hand that feeds them.

What they need to do is to innovate and come to market with great products. Like Firefox and like TBird.

Practically no where is MSFT my default, except with MS Office at work because of my work. My default browser is FF. My default email program at home is TBird. My default music player is Winamp.
