I am just about at my wits end--I have used Netscape since.....forever. Now I use T'bird and Foxfire. I purchased a PalmPre (which has since gone back) and the minute I installed my email on the phone my inbox quit receiving my emails. The outgoing server works just fine. I can see any email that I received up till 6/20/2009 at 7:02 pm.

Does anyone have any idea re: what the problem could be?

PS: Under 'User Setting' I also cannot use "set as default' button

If you set up your Pre to download e-mail via POP3, it's probably automatically downloading the messages to the phone, instead of Thunderbird. I'm not familiar with the Pre's mail application, but you may want to see if you can find an option somewhere that reads, "Leave mail on server," or similar.

Alternatively, if your mail provider supports it, you may be able to use IMAP for mail access instead.
