remove account - email lost forever?

Postby ia » Tue 30 Jun, 2009 11:32 pm

My husband clicked "Remove Account" for my netscape email. Is there any way to undo this, any way to retrieve the emails that were there? The inbox has 4MB next to it, but nothing shows. Please, please, please- does anyone know about this? I would be eternally grateful.

Which "netscape e-mail?" Which mail program?
Assuming that the program was Netscape 4 or 7, and the mail referred to was its mail portion, there is no reason not to recreate the account. But, I have yet to see a case when the account is removed, and there is an Inbox, in the program. The Inbox file will not be removed from the hard drive, and it is simple enough to rename the file, and cut it, and paste it into another account. If the Inbox was renamed to, let's say, InboxNetscape, cut/paste it into another account, that account will shows a folder containing the original "Inbox".
More precise information is needed, so that not so much guesswork is attempted.

removed account - email lost forever?

Postby ia » Wed 01 Jul, 2009 11:11 am

Thank you so much for answering me. I have tried & tried to get help with this, and no one seems to know anything about what I'm trying to describe. I can't begin to express my gratitude for this glimmer of hope!
I'm (obviously) not computer-savvy- but I will try to answer the question/s---
The email is in Netscape 7.2. I go to Window at top and pull down to Mail&Newsgroups.

I see that you use a Mac OS X. If that's the case, your NS7.2 profile should be located in this path:
MacHD/Users/[name]/Library/Mozilla/Profiles/[name]/random.slt
Any mail account should be in the Mail/account name directory.
I never used a Mac, so I will stop giving you further advice. There are Mac users here. Now I understand why you have had so much trouble getting advice. With a PC, if I remove an account, there is nothing to see in that Mail and Newsgroups, but the directory is, still, on the Hard Drive.

E-mails missing from Message Center in Netscape 7.2

Postby OPDVD » Sat 04 Jul, 2009 12:07 pm

I had this happen about 2 years ago and called the "Netscape Phone Support" line (which no longer exists.

I paid $19.95 on a credit card and a young man "walked" me through what to do.

All my templates, sent box contents and about 20 additional folder contents were back in less than 5 minutes.

NOW MY CURRENT PROBLEM -

I tried to sign up for "Newsgroups" yesterday and something went wrong - same problem as above ----------- AGAIN!!!!

I can still see the e-mails on my hard drive and need to import them back to the "Message Center" as soon as possible.

I have been all over the Internet and even spoken to Netscape Corporation (in India).

I am happy to pay an IT person to walk me through and I can be reached at [number removed].

Thank you and HELP!!!!!!!!!

[Please contact this poster here. The phone numbered was removed and will only be restored at the poster's request. profman 7/4/2009]

I need help recovering (importing back) the e-mails in my message center in Netscape 7.2.

This can be done as it has happened before and the messages are still showing on my hard drive.

Need to recover contents of Message Center

Postby OPDVD » Sun 05 Jul, 2009 1:16 pm

In my prior post, I described how I tried to sign up for "Newsgroups" and something went wrong.

I have since figured out that when I tried to reverse the attempt for the Newsgroups, I hit a "cancel" button which "cleared out" the contents of my "Message Center."

I can still see the e-mails on my hard drive and need to import them back to the "Message Center" as soon as possible (many are Templates for an International Charity I founded).
=========================================================

Several years ago my Hard Drive crashed and DriveSavers (Navato, CA) recovered 100% of my data (returning it to me on a DVD which I used to restore everything).

Yesterday afternoon (July 4th) I realized they MUST be able to do something as simple as restoring my "Message Center."

I called them (they had sent me a mouse pad which was under my mouse) and left a message to contact me the following Monday.

Within an hour one of the "bosses" called back and we had a great talk. They have 80 TECHNICIANS and we are both sure that at least one of them can help.

Since I previously spent several thousand dollars recovering my data - I was told they will not even charge me.

I will give you a report once everthing is done.

Happy again in Palm Springs
