Laptop cooling pad

Postby iJohnE » Wed 19 Aug, 2009 9:46 pm

Recently I've noticed my laptop running a little warm, and the fan has been going non stop. No doubt this has to do with the 90F temperatures here.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on laptop cooling pads. Preferably USB powered.

I have a 15.4 in laptop with a 9-Cell battery that puts the laptop up at a slight angle.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,
John.

Not a cooling pad or cooling stand recommendation, but a general recommendation: Don't use the laptop on top of bed cover directly or wool blankets. If you are using a desk or table, glass top is a great way to keep the laptop cool.

I bought a generic laptop cooler, it has three fans, for under $20 at the computer show. It is USB-powered and is now about a year or so old. Still works.

Do you think the cooler is doing a good job? And is it loud?

The one I bought is actually nice and quiet.

It is definitely doing its job, it was rather hot before I bought one. Even tilting it on an up-angle allowing room underneath it for air circulation, didn't help at all that much.

With the cooler underneath it, it is keeping it cool.

They are definitely worth purchasing.

Hey John-

Sorry I missed this one. I put up a post about this independently.

I just started to use extra little feet under my netbook and under my laptop. I took pairs of those felt microdots, 1" diameter, with adhesive backs, stuck two together and put them under the feet of the machines. Good physics says that the warm air underneath the machine will be lighter and thus rise out and into the heavier cool air around the room. This should be sufficient to set up a flow.

Of course, this only works on a desk, or table, not a lap.

Hey- with a big enough laptop, one might even be able to fly a mini kite!!

For using a laptop on your laps, I recommend Belkin CushTop. It prevents the heat from laptop to your legs, as well as lifting up the laptop to the right comfy position.
