Right Click Copy/Paste function not working

Postby LucyVan582 » Sat 16 Jan, 2010 2:36 pm

I just discovered that I can't use the right click copy/paste function any more on my laptop while using Firefox. It works fine in Explorer though. I can use copy from the dropdown menu, but I don't get a paste option when ready to paste it. I can work around that with control V, but would like to get the use of the right click feature back. I have tried rebooting the computer to clear the Clipboard, but that didn't work. I am running the latest version of Firefox 3.5.7

Could this have been caused by my recent update of Windows Vista?

It has happened, in some cases, that I cannot use Copy|Paste. It this is true in all cases, I would think that the Vista update would be suspect, but if happens in rare cases, I may be a website flaw.
It works fine in Explorer though.
. I copy|pasted the quote at this website, and it works fine in Firefox3.5.7. And IE is a Microsoft product, like is Vista, so I would expect it to work.
The problem on the computer is exclusively with FireFox. We have no paste available in our Edit drop down menu though we do have copy there. Right click, however, does not work at all in FireFox anymore.

This only occurs in FireFox and not in IE or any other program on the computer. This is what has us so stumped. Could this be an incompatibility between the Vista upgrade and FireFox?

My suggestion may have not been worded correctly. I will try again: are you having problem with any website (try this one). As for Vista, I don't have it.
I also said that I would expect the Paste function to work in Explorer (IE), because it is a Microsoft product, like Vista.
Do you understand both statements?

See this topic on the Mozillazine Forum:

SeaMonkey 2.0 can't copy & paste text?

Also applies to Firefox.

Regards,

Dave.

As I said, this is an occasional problem for me, and I don't have any of the addons mentioned in the link.

The problem exists in SeaMonkey which my wife uses but cut and paste works just fine on Firefox.

I thought I read that it was a problem on some version of Firefox! Sorry if I was mistaken.

Dave.

Right-click not working in firefox 3.5.7

Postby wonderpeace » Tue 26 Jan, 2010 12:18 pm

I'm running Firefox Mozilla 3.5.7 and my right-click doesn't work at all! I don't need it so much for copy/paste, but it's crucial for "Open in new tab" option. It's just impossible for me to browse without that option. doesn't work either. Oh, I've almost forgotten: I don't have Yahoo Toolbar (nor Google Tolbar) and don't use any Add-ons... I've never had such a problem before installing version 3.5.7...

Still no such problem on FF 3.5.7 for me. My wife is now using FF whenever she needs to cut and paste on her web mail account. I am at a loss as to why this is happening. The SeaMonkey folks seem to know about the problem but it does seem to be a universal problem with FF. Have you tried creating a new profile to see if the problem persists? If not, give that a try.

but it's crucial for "Open in new tab" option

Quote was copy/pasted in 3.5.7. I, never, encountered the problem with 3.5.7 (but have had, rarely, with previous versions), but, as I said before, it may be a website issue. As for Open in new tab, can understand the problem, as clicking on the Open new Tab gives no URL. I have no issue with Seamonkey2.x, either.
I would follow "humpd" suggestion.

Just now figured out the problem with the right-click feature. Evidently it's a known problem with the Yahoo toolbar in Firefox. I simply disabled the toolbar and the problem went away. I never wanted that toolbar anyway and must have installed it inadvertently along with other upgrades somewhere along the line.

There are several programs which provide the Toolbar. I, never, accept the installation, but it happens, anyway, at some website. However, the problem is, easily, fixed from Addons|select Yahoo toolbar|uninstall
