Ever so often I get this notice pop up in Seamonkey

http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/3382/s ... t015cx.jpg

Seems it only happens in Seamonkey not in Firefox, Opera or IE. I called Comcast and they really weren't of any help except to tell me to use IE. That's not going to happen.

The error doesn't prevent the page from displaying, I just click it away but it's getting irritating. Is there some setting or configuration in Seamonkey that I could try tweaking?

Get Coral IE Tab.
Click on the v.1.69, if you don't have an IE Tab addon (if so, follow directions). Coral IE Tab is essential for the newer Firefox and Seamonkey. Then, after installing it, use it with clueless and Microsoft-centric sites like your provider.
If you are not familiar with IE Tab, it allows to use your browser with the IE engine.

Oh my! Now, after installing Coral IE Tab, I get that notice box every time I click a link or change pages!!! It's much worse. I've closed and opened Seamonkey several times and even rebooted the machine.

You should have a Firefox icon at the bottom right, if you place the mouse cursor, you should have some choices, about the rendering engine, and left click would change the icon to the IE icon. Only after doing that you should try to access your site. But, when I tested the site, it came up fine using the Firefox engine, or after getting the site, I left clicked, and got the same page in the IE version.
I get this, at the top of the page:
Welcome to ImageShack.
No registration required. Free to use and enjoy.
I never used the site, so, I don't know what it entails, but the addon does not help. I never got a notice poppup, or whatever, but I don't have Comcast.
I am using Seamonkey2.0.3 nightly, i.e. not a stable version.

"change the icon to the IE icon. Only after doing that you should try to access your site"

Maybe I'm being misunderstood? There is no specific site that causes the error box to pop up, it's totally random, different sites, different times. For instance when I click on your link it takes me to the Image Shack site and the error box pops up. After a while I went to Image Shack site using my bookmark and the error box didn't pop up.

The error box doesn't prevent any page from loading. However it's getting very annoying, I have to click "Cancel" to get it to go away. I've looked at Certificates in Preferences hoping there was some setting in there I could change or edit but I don't understand much of what is there.

I can't comment, much, since I never saw the error. But, there must be more sites than Image Shack, which you listed. Do you have to login, all of them? Or, if I understand correctly, the error occurs even before login? I know that some sites make a mess of Firefox, and, especially, Seamonkey, and I have no problem using IE Tab. But, here it seems to be the provider which causes the problem.
Did you check Edit|Preferences|Privacy and Security|Manage Certificates button. I found certificates that I have no idea how they got there. Check, also SSL, if there is any warning listed. I have none.

This is what the error/warning box looks like. I posted it in my first post

http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/3382/s ... t015cx.jpg

As I've already said I've been to Preferences > Certificates and have no idea what to do there. I don't know how or what to edit or change. I don't see Comcast anywhere in the listing. I too see certificates that I have no idea how they got there.

This is what is checked and unchecked in SSL

The error/warning box will pop up randomly, sometime only a few time over several hours and sometimes every few minutes, occasionally every few seconds.

If I go to https://webauth.comcast.net:443 in my installation of SeaMonkey, I get this . . .

Image

It looks to me like the actual fault is with the Comcast.net server, and not a problem with SeaMonkey. They seem to be
issuing an outdated SSL certificate that expired almost 2 weeks ago on 21/01/2010 at 23:59. Now, If I was a Comcast
internet subscriber*, I'd click the [Add Exception...] since webauth.comcast.net:443 appears (to me at least) to be
a legit Comcast server, and not from some dodgy link sourced from some kind of phishing scam.

It looks like SeaMonkey is doing the right thing by warning you about the outdated SSL certificate, and offering you
the choice whether to accept it or not, while the other browsers simply ignore it, and let it pass without any issue.

Accepting the outdated SSL certificate an adding the exception brings me to this page . . .

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

If I were you, I'd send Comcast an email with a copy of the warning message, complaining in the strongest possible terms that they are using an outdated SSL certificate that expired on 21/01/2010 at 23:59 and ask them to renew the certificate forthwith.

I know you have already been in touch with Comcast but they are avoiding the issue, so don't accept any excuses, especially one to use IE instead of SeaMonkey!

It might also be useful to point them to these two web sites:

Dave.

I doubt that it will do any good, but I will try to contact my oldest son, and one sister-in-law who are Comcast subscribers, but I doubt that they are adventurous to stray from the Comcast norm. There is no Comcast in Omaha, and Cox lets me do what I want (but even they may not have single tech who even knows what Seamonkey is). Firefox is fully supported.

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the feedback and helpful hints. I figured an email to Comcast could too easily go unanswered so I found a live chat to use. I gave the lady a link to this forum so she could really get a handle on the problem.

She had me go to Tools and Clear Private Data, then disable my Popup blocker temporarily. That seemed to have cured the problem, so far no more warning boxes, it's been over 2 hours now. I've since enable my Popup Blocker.

Well, I've cleared my relevant private data but I'm sorry to say that I'm still getting the warning message. :(

Dave.

In Seamonkey? And is it in regards to Comcast also? Maybe you should try live chat, there may be other things to try. I have no idea what happened but sounds to me like maybe the certificate stopped updating for me and the cause was in one of the items listed in Private Data. Maybe corrupted? Cache or History?

Here is the web site to log onto Live Chat with Comcast in case you want to try it.

Yes, I'm using SM 2.0.2.

And is it in regards to Comcast also?

Yes.

Well, as Comcast is not my ISP (I'm in the UK), I don't think it's worth going that far and I'm not sure that they would help anyway, for those reasons! It's one of only a very few sites that give a similar error but it's more usually that the the web site's name is different to the one on the certificate, rather than that it's expired!

No, I cleared them and the Comcast warning is still occurring. I'm inclined to agree with DJGM that it's a Comcast problem.

As a double check, I just tried https://webauth.comcast.net/ in SM 1.1.18 and IE 6 and get the same error. As the SM 1.1.18, SM 2.0.2 and IE 6 profiles are completely separate from each other, I think that rules out SeaMonkey as being the problem!

Regards,

Dave.

Now that is really strange! And all the more reason to contact them in Live Chat. This really does seem to be their problem. You can always direct them to this forum so they can see exactly what you are talking about.

Worth a try I think.
