Active Desktop

Postby RottweilerKing » Wed 04 Jun, 2003 3:39 am

Actually it's not even IE I'm worried about. I always keep it on my PC. It's active desktop... The theory is that if I re-install IE after using IEradicator on XP that the usual problem(s) will go away and I'll have IE separate of the os just like on 98 after removing active desktop with IEradicator. I just haven't got brave enough to try it out.

The *safe* way to do that is to use Win95/NT 4 WS and install IE6, but not the "Desktop Update". The not so safe way on 98/Me is to use 98lite and change to the Win95 shell. You need a copy of Win95 for that to work, however.

Not quite! You cant install IE6 on Windows 95. NT4 yes, 95 no.

Oops! DJGM is correct. I would reccomend going to browsers.evolt.org then if you use Windows 95, and getting IE 5.5 Sp2, then heading to Windows Update for security patches.

DJGM: Yes, IE 6 won't work on Win95. Rumor has it that MSN Messenger 6 (currently in beta) will only work on Windows Me/2k/XP - bye bye 98 and NT. We know for a fact that MS Office 2003 will only work on 2k/XP also.
