Try looking in your system's BIOS setup. I remember my old laptop had the ability to vary the amount of memory shared with system RAM between 8MB and 128MB. Given, you probably can't turn it off completely, but you'd probably be able to at least make it use less memory.

Everybody knows that Apple Inc. (was known as Apple Computer, Inc. then) foresaw the future back in 1998 with the introduction of the first iMac. Since then, Mac hardware does not come with floppy drive.

For some stupid reasons such as to install ancient operating systems on Parallels Desktop for Mac, I decided to get a floppy drive to make life easier.

Bought from eBay, just picked it up from my post office box today. It works great.

Unlike some members who would rush for the latest technologies (64-bit operating system, latest DVD-DL burner, 802.11n etc), I simply can't afford getting those "hi-tech". I can only get yesterday's technology (or last decade's actually). ;-)

I've been upgrading my computer too :-

2GB ram and another 160GB hard drive (for a total of 660GB HDD space now). Yes having 2GB of ram rocks. I should have done it sooner. :)

You just added another 160GB of storage space, and I could only afford a floppy drive which can old up to 1.44MB of storage.

Mandrake is richer! Not only is his processor more efficient but his FSB speed is twice as high as Don_HH2K's! And he's got some superfast video card! Wow!

Don_HH2K is even richer yet! His CPU has an intergrated memory controller. My CPU doesn't, neither does Antony's. Proof that I am poor.

Damn. . . you got me there!

Sort of going off topic . . . this new 160GB hard drive is a Seagate. It's temperature sits happily around 40C all day long. My Western Digital drives sit between 50C and 55C. I think I'll be buying Seagate drives from now on, since they run a lot cooler.

You're all still richer. You have faster, larger hard drives; Don's only does 5400RPMs, and most of the other ones either do that or 4200RPMs. And on top of that, you guys have nice cellphones and iPods. I've got a $39 phone that runs on a band that AT&T is killing off (with no camera or polyphonics other special features either), and no standalone MP3 player to speak of.

Color screen? E-mail and mobile web? Polyphonic ringtones? USB support? 2.75G transfer rates? A cellular band that actually still has towers? All sorts of stuff that I don't have on my pitiful black-and-white TDMA phone with virtually no extras.

Guys, I think we can start a thread called something like "My gadgets" for all other high-tech toys that is not part of computer. Does anyone agree?

I took the plunge and installed Vista this weekend. I went with Vista Business, since I use some features that are not present in Home Premium.

Running very well for now. It's reassuring to know that I've still got my rock-solid XP install still there if I need it. :)
