I deleated my netscape mail account information...

Postby mom18225 » Tue 08 Jul, 2003 10:44 am

:(
Hello,
I am not a computer wiz so any help is begged for. I was on my netscape 7.0 mail program and it kicked me off. I went to get back on and it wanted me to sign in. It rejected the sign in. I figured it was another netscape srew up. Well it gave me the option to delete the account. Thinking it would just get rid of the netscape mail account I never used. BUT it took all my mail new, saved etc with it from my server account I worked thru the netscape 7.0 program. Years of mail lost not to mention my new business vendors info and product info. (I upgraded from the 4.x a month ago.) Is there anyplace I can get it all or most back from? I can send a hot sauce a month for a year to whom ever helps me. That is my new business to open in September.
Please help.

Diana,
this is not an expected behavior, to get an option to delete an account. The questions I have are the following:
1.Click on the mail icon, or Cntrl+2, or Window| Mail and Newsgroup.
If you get the Wizard set up, it means that there is no active account. Just cancel for now. And see what you may have or not when you click on Edit| Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings. Take a good look at all the buttons which are there. I am asking you to do this to get acquainted with the 7.02 format. You can set up your account again, if you wish, entering the same information as you had before. It will not matter for the recovery of your mail.
Your Profile should be in Windows Explorer, C:/Windows/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/named profile/xxxx.slt
You should see a Mail folder, into which you have your account. If you set up your account again, it would have the same name, but with -1 after it.
Your mail will be in the Inbox file of the older folder. You can just right click on the Inbox icon, and select Copy, and then open the -1 account, and select right click and Paste. And, since the Inbox has the same name, you will be asked if you want to replace one with the other.
You do all this with Netscape closed.
If there were no other problems with the Profile, you should have everything back. Now you can set up your account again to download message automatically, etc.
It may seem very difficult, if you have not done it before, but take your time. Do not delete anything you are not sure about.

Thank you for the reply. I have not been able to get the mail back, but I did find some of the folders on my c drive. I just need to take the times to go thru them and try to pull out the business e-mail address I lost, I am having a problem getting them to open in the right format. I know I at least have some hope. Is there anyway I can get the info pulled of my hard drive by someone who knows what they are doing? Please let me know.
P.S. Where do you want your hot sauce sent.
Thanks,
Diana
