Microsoft moving the world not to use IE6

Postby Antony » Fri 04 Mar, 2011 9:50 pm

Well, we have seen a number of switch campaigns over the years. Usually the company (e.g. Apple, Mozilla, ...) encourages users not to a competitor's products. This time, Microsoft is asking users not to use its own product.

Recently, Microsoft posted a The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown web page to encourage users to stop using Internet Explorer 6, and providing tracks of the progress towards ending its use.

Without a doubt, Internet Explorer 6 was a big hit back then. Despite its security and inadequate web standard support, it still has a substantial percentage of usage around the world thanks to the default web browser included in the still very popular Windows XP.

Microsoft's goal is to make Internet Explorer 6's market share less than 1%. A usage map and statistic are provided for reference. Microsoft also provides scripts for web site owners and tips on how to educate others.
