7.1 and certain web sites

Postby John N » Sun 10 Aug, 2003 7:52 pm

Certain web sites have problems with 7.1 and earlier versions. TRACFONE.com will not produce a coverage area map and gives an error message. ANCESTRY.com will not perform certain operations.

IE 5.5 has no problem running either web site.

Any thoughts?

John N,
it is a fact which may not be known to you, but has been established way back when Netscape 6.x came out, and decided to be as close to 100% w3c compliant. That means that the code for web pages had to be a certain way, and not a number of ways which is possible with the much more forgiving IE.
In my opinion, it is a pain, but it is another way which Microsoft is pushing for monopoly. In other words, everybody will have to write their software so that it completely Windows compatible.
Netscape 7.1 is the end of Netscape version, unless something will happen, so it will not rewritten because of incomplete compliance to code of some web pages. As expected, banks were the most likely to change, while some websites have refused to acknowledge the existance of Netscape.
I wish there would be an easy solution, but with the vast majority of websites being compliant, one is left with only two obvious choices. You can guess them.

Thanks for your input. I suspected that may be the case, but I didn't have the background knowledge.
