7.1 keeps re-installing all by itself!!!

Postby slyhouseboss » Mon 06 Oct, 2003 12:33 pm

Found you in google. Search term used: List All Netscape Versions. You where #1. (Thank God!)

One of my sales reps is having a weird problem. He installed 7.1 from netscape's site. Now once a week, he gets a message: Congratulations! Your Netscape Browser has been updated to v 7.1 and when he starts it up all his e-mail, adresses and bookmarks are gone! and we cant find any of it in either netscape or mozilla folders. He did unchecked the auto update check in prefs. didn't help.

His OS is XP Home.

I really need this guy but if this happens again I'm afraid he is going to throw his pooter and himself out of his window.

Please help.
Thanking you in advance,

This has happened to me when I did not pay attention at which profile I was using. Apparently, I was using the 7.1 profile for a lower version of Netscape. Basically, if there was any previous Netscape, and more than one profile, it is important to use the right profile with the right version.
Need to know a bit more of past history of what was done on the 'puter.

Tell him to use. violence on the computer. To himself is optional.

Thank you Fulvio. Good call. He did some major upgrades and re-configs. I just checked and just like you stated. He is using the profile for NS 7.1 but opening his old copy of NS 7.02. I just downloaded the newest full NS 7.1 from the SillyDog701 site. I will use Ramona's backup instuctions for his profile then clean off all his NS vr's and install it. Just goes to show ya. It takes a silly dog to teach an old dog new tricks.

Im very glad I found SD701. It is an awesome resource.

Sorry I don't allow employees to use violence on company equipment but I DO encourage them to use fowl language.

Hi Tony, and welcome to the Forum!

You might also have your user disable the "Enable Software Installation" in the Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Software preference
Better for the user to make that decision...

You must have a noisy office with all that "fowl" language going on!

Cheers!

And who'd want to have an office full of ducks and geese . . . ?!?
