Mozilla 1.5, Firebird 0.7, Thunderbird 0.3 Released

Postby jubalj » Wed 15 Oct, 2003 8:53 am

3 new releases from Mozilla.org today!

Check out mozilla 1.5 which is ment to be the last version of the old mozilla suite, i think after this release spells the end of the intergrated browser. http://www.mozilla.org/releases/#1.5 [download] and http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.5/ [release notes]

The stand alone browser, Firebird, now also has some additional features, namely web-panels and auto-download (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/)

See http://www.mozillazine.org/ for more information.

Edit: PS: actually.. it seems that there will be a mozilla 1.6 see http://www.mozilla.org/roadmap.html

This (Mozilla Firebird 0.7/OS X) is my first Firebird I've ever downloaded.
So far, it is running pretty fast, faster than Camino (the Haas' build). The interface of Firebird (OS X) is somehow hybrid between XUL and Aqua. The tabs look a bit aqua to me...

It's sidebar feature is not as rich as Netscape 7.1 or Mozilla 1.4.x. Pretty stable so far!

Good to see that.

I have been using at least one Mozilla1.6a nightly, but the end of the integrated Mozilla is near. Sooner or later Thunderbird and MozFirebird will break away. One reason why there was such a delay in issuing the final version was due to the fact that there was some 1.5 problem, and Moz1.5, MozFirebird and Thunderbird have the same user agent.....

I've got 0.7 FB and 0.3 TB up and running and for the most part all is smooth. I am using the Pinball theme (always had a weakness for it).

What I'm disappointed about is the fact that the progress bar is still not functioning. Any ideas?

This is BIZARRE!!!! That progress bar works on some pages and not on others. This forum is one example where it does not function. All I get is a blank white box and the "loading" circle at the top (which does function) to let me know that something is actually happening. Yet on Beliefnet, the bar functions. What is going on here?

Changed themes back to the default and now the progress bar no longer functions at all. I guess this is a bug as yet unattended to. Oh well... can't have everything. :(

I haven't experienced the progress bar problem, as James has. I agree wholeheartedly with Antony, that this Firebird Release is very fast. Haven't used it long enough to really give any opinions, other than speed.

I have read that Mozilla is rethinking the suite being dropped. Because of its popularity with users (me included) they may extend it further.

:moz: 1.5 under Linux is working fine so far.

I would hope they would NOT discontinue the suite package, there will be people who will want an all-in-one package (as I do).

I don't like the idea of separate applications, especially (as I learned under Linux), after I clicked a mailto: link in Firebird, it did nothing.

Their FTP server was very slow. It took a good 5 minutes after I clicked the Linux link on the home page, before the file started to download.

Hi Edward,

Do you think that might have been due to the heavy traffic? I know it was slow going for me on the Firebird, Thunderbird, and Mozilla 1.5 downloads today. Not just one release this time but three!

I would say so. Every time I have downloaded a new Mozilla version from the site, the download started almost immediately.

Tonight's five-minute delay was a first.

Slow, all day yesterday, and going on today. I was able to get 1.5, which is giving me problems that 1.4.1 does not, and I was able to make coffee and lunch for my wife, before the download began. I have cable, and it took six minutes to get the job done. I am ok with MozFirebird and Thunderbird, since the nightlies work well.

It's not right to compare FB 0.7 with Camino, since CM 's newest version is still too old.

I was comparing Dave Haas' Camino (20031010) with Firebird 0.7.

BTW, I can't save pictures from Firebird 0.7 (Mac), anyone experience the same?
