Zone alarm and netscape mail

Postby kah707 » Sat 15 Nov, 2003 7:34 pm

Just a heads up.

I had been having sporadic troubles with my email in netscape. At times, I could not access my mail, it was trying, but said there was an error.

I read an old thread and it talked about the the conflicts of netscape and zone alarm with the cookies and the popups, saying that netscape is good enough for these, and to disable it in ZA. I started putting 2 and 2 together, disabled it in ZA, and now no problems.

Thought you might want to know

I am using the free ZA version3.7something, and never had a conflict with Netscape. Norton is another story.
Which version ZA are you using?

I have used Zone Alarm 2.6 first, and now 3.7.211 for at least three yeard, and I had a problem only when I upgraded to 3.1. If you have a cable connection ZA is a must. It does nothing to either popups or cookies, but prevents intrusions. And, basic mail safe should not affect you. I am not sure what you disabled in ZA.

I use Norton AV Pro 2003 and the free ZoneAlarm under Windows, with Netscape. Never had a problem with either.

Thanks for the info!

In the past (old thread), I noticed display problems with Netscape browsers when I enabled the "Cookie Control" or "Ad Blocking" features of the newer ZoneAlarm firewalls, so I now have those ZA features always turned off. The MailSafe Protection feature of ZA seemed to work fine. I never noticed any mail problems due to the Cookie and Ad Controls of ZA.

I now run off a router with a built-in hardware firewall, so I no longer use ZoneAlarm on a routine basis. The last version I have is 4.0.146.029.

I don't have cookie controls or Ad blocking in my ZA. I think that both features are unecessary.
As for Norton, the problem is when you use the Firewall. The AntiVirus is ok, as long as Netscape Mail scanning is not enabled.
