Modem not working after upgrading to OS X.

Postby hartlandcat » Thu 27 Nov, 2003 5:33 pm

I've just upgraded to Mac OS X Jaguar, from Mac OS 9.2. When I used OS 9, I was able to connect to the internet via AOL using my tray loading bondi blue iMac's built in modem. Now, after upgrading to OS X, my Mac suddenly doesn't seem to think that the modem is there.

Why has this happened, and how can I make it recognise the modem?

Thanks! ^_^

Have you got a recent AOL CD? If you have, then install the AOL for Mac OS X software.

All being well, that should recognise yout iMac's internal modem, and configure all the
relevant AOL proprietary dial-up settings automatically. As you will probably already
know, AOL software CD's have their own little way of doing things, especially
with their proprietary (non-standard) dial-up configurations.

Eitherway, no matter whether you use a conventional dial-up ISP, or the far from
conventional dial-up services from AOL, Mac OS X should recognise either setup.

Click the Apple menu (from the topleft corner) | About This Mac | More Info and see if the Modern is listed there.

You will need to check the configuration of the modern.

Thanks -- anyway, I've solved the problem now. I was trying to connect via AOL 5.0 (under classic mode). I've now installed AOL for Mac OS X and I can now connect perfectly. ^_^
