Address Book Mailing Lists in Netscape 7.1

Postby Brian » Sun 07 Dec, 2003 7:42 pm

I just upgraded to Netscape 7.1 from 4.8 and I like it very much, particularly the anti-spam attributes.
However, I find that I can't properly add new names to an existing Mailing Lists. Making a new mailing list or just deleting names in an existing mailing list is no problem.
But opening an existing mailing list to add names (using 'properties') just doesn't seem to work. When a new name is added (per "Help" instructions), existing emails are destroyed in that list. In fact just the last name is retained in that list with the email address being deleted. What's even stranger is that a new card is automatically formed in the address book where the mailing list resides. This is a non-functional card that has just the last name in it.
The original address book was imported from Netscape 4.8 where editting mailing lists worked fine.
Any suggestions???

Should this thread be moved to the NS 6/7 forum?

This should go to the 6/7 group, but I did a bit of testing.
I did not have any lists when the address book was converted from 4.78 to 6.something. I have to import since there was no way out of 6.x address book. Anyway, I created a few lists in the past two weeks, in 7.1, in the Address Book|File|New Card. It looked a bit scary, because the top name was highlighted, but I went on filling a card. When I was done, the new card was added to the list, and everything else was untouched.
Properties, if you have the list highlighted would save you a step, bringing up the list, and the icon in a new line. Basically no problem.

Bug in Mailing List?

Postby Brian » Thu 11 Dec, 2003 9:34 am

I didn't do a very good job of describing what seems to be a serious bug in Mail List Edit. Please try the following to see if you can duplicate this apparent bug:
1. Open Address Book
2. File.. New.. Mailing List
3. The mailing list dialog box opens. Give the list a name, e.g. "Test"
4. Add two emails to this list. As you type the name you are provided with matches from the address book. Select the one you want.
5. Click OK. The box closes and the new mail list appears in the address book. This mail list works fine, no problems.
Now to edit this list:
6. Select the "Test" mail list.
7. Select Properties. This opens the mailing list dialog box.
8. Add a third name to the list. Select OK. Box closes.
Now the problem:
9. Select the mail list "Test" again.
10. Select Properties. The dialog box opens, BUT one or both of the original names in the list has been corrupted. The email addresses have dissapeared and are replaced by just the name. The corrupted names can be deleted, and the correct names added again. Then select OK. All appears fine, BUT...
11. Go to step 9 and 10 again. The mail list will show further (random?) corruption of names in the list.

Can you duplicate this bug, or is it something unique to my system/software? Original address book was imported from Netscape 4.8. I'm using XP on an AMD CPU.

I hope that you have some ideas for me as the only work around I have for adding new names to a mail list (deletions work OK) is to redo the mail list in Netscape 4.8 (which works fine) than import a new address book with this mail list!
