Because of problems with Zone Alarm, I was fortunate to remove it without losing my mind. Yes there is log, but this is not related to Mozilla or Netscape.
I have cable, and I have wondered why my modem activity goes crazy, at times. If anything your ISP is sending/receiving information. I know that this happens quite frequently, as I confirmed when Sygate, which I have now reported that Explorer wanted to access a certain obscure port. Explorer is a catch all phrase, and your ISP expect to be able to check on you.
And, if no profile is launched, why Mozilla? You must have at least one more program than Mozilla. There should be a file or folder in Windows|Internet logs and you can read the contents by opening with Wordpad. You will not learn much, but that's where Zone Alarm used to place their logs.
