Ramona, you are the Wizard!

I have "Send Page" in 7.1; amazing!

Thank you so, so much, not only for the solution but for all the hard work and time you put into getting me there.

I know as I use this new version other issues will occur, but hopefully not too soon. I hope I may call on your assistance again.

All best wishes, and again, thank you.

I agree with Ramona, so I will have to go back to an reply of mine,i.e. <Base download ( from the Netscape website?)> What Base download? Or do make things simpler, can open Mail, period? Either from Window|Mail and Newsgroups, or the envelope at the bottom left. If you have all that stuff, I don't know the problem, but if you cannot access Mail, you must have something different from Base, from Netscape, but rather the Standalone, browser only from this website.
You seem to have solved the problem, but it would be nice if you could answer to my post, so that other people could be enlightned.

Fulvio,

I'll try to respond as best I can.

I don't remember whether I downloaded 7.1 from Sillydog or the Netscape site. I do know it was called Base, not Standalone. Due to Ramona's help the Netscape 7.1 browser is fully functional. Even though I now have the 7.1 mail program, I continue to use 4.7 as my main mail application. I do send pages from 7.1 using the 7.1 mail program, which is linked to the "Send Page" shortcut. For now, it is all working well.

I hope that is sufficiently responsive. Please feel free to ask more specifics. I'll do my best to answer.

Final remark: this site has been extraordinary in its helpful reaching out to someone like myself.

Regards,

Steven

Fulvio,

This is most likely where Steven found the Netscape Base Install:
ftp://ftp.netscape.com./pub/netscape7/e ... win32/sea/

Antony has it listed on the Netscape Browser Archive as:
Navigator 7.1 (11.9MB, stand-alone) even though the executable is called NSSetup-Base.exe

Katten 41 - re rightclick for Shortcut using NS 7.1 - you are dead on - I also miss this wonderful uncomplicated feature of 4.79 - it is just not available in the same way in 7.1.

In 7.1 you can right click and menu says amongst other things SAVE PAGE AS - a prompt box comes up - find your desk top folder on it and using All Files download your shortcut "of sorts" - it will not give you all the links - just simply the shortcut to the page you download.

This is how I have gone around the problem. Keep your Netscape 4.79 browser icon on the desktop - when you want to short cut to a favourite site - highlight that sight in 7.1 and Control C it - shrink 7.1 webpage and open up 4.79 - in that browser location Control V your webpage and all is fine.

Links work and it is heaven again.

There are many great features of 7.1 - guess they did not think it was important to duplicate the short cut feature of 4.79 - but that's how I am managing until they create a fix.

Cheers, Roz.

Roz,

If you go back to Ramona's detailed posting in January in this thread, you will see precisely how to get "send page" in the shortcut menu. Her advice worked very well and I now have the desired result. However, be aware that the current "send link" in 7.1 is just as effective, and in fact demands fewer kilobytes than does the "send page" shortcut.

Good luck!

Steven

Steven: You have me confused - I did not have a problem with Send Page - I have a problem creating a short cut of a web page to the desk top.

In 4.79 one simply right clicked on the page and prompt came up that said Creat Short Cut - but with 7.1 it cannot be done unless you right click and highlight Save Page As - but that is all you get - just the page and when you bring it up - none of the links work - so although you need to be on the web to get it - it will not go anywhere.

This feature in 4.79 was the best - as you can rename them to suit yourself.

Do you know what I am getting at? Thanks, Roz.

Sorry, Roz. Didn't intend to confuse. I thought you were referring to the issue of the thread, the "send page" shortcut. But you are correct, it is too bad that the "create shortcut" was not incorporated into 7.1. Perhaps Ramona or someone else will be able to help you with this. Since it is a different subject matter, you might want to start a new thread. Experienced members will no doubt offer valuable suggestions.

Again, good luck and sorry for the confusion.

I can make a shortcut, all right, but try to open it! I am going to post separately, because I am afraid that this will be missed. I don't know if later Mozillas fixed the problem. Anyway, this is what I did:

Ok, this is whatc Roz meant! You see a funny hand to the left of the URL?
Place your mouse there, and if you aim it correctly, it will say: drag and drop to create link to this page. The trick is to find the desktop, but if I clicked the middle (maximize/restore), the page shrink enough to give some space to do the trick. Not convenient.
But, then, click on that shortcut, and see what happens. Very interesting and very dumb.

re short cut icon to desk top

Postby Roz » Fri 20 Feb, 2004 12:32 pm

Steven and Fulvio - thanks, I tried the aiming of my cursor on the icon before the url in the location bar - and dragged it to the deskstop and voila - it works, you folks are terrific and I am in short cut heaven - thank you thank you. Funny this was not in Netscape 7.1 manual - they should be advised - this is terrific - the more I learn about this browser the more I like it.
