Incorrect monitor driver...

Postby Marc » Mon 23 Feb, 2004 11:09 am

Hi all,

Running a Compaq 5441, AMD K6 @ 475 Mhz, 312 RAM, 8 Gb HD on Windows 98 SE. Trying to find a driver for my Dell UltraScan P780 CRT Monitor but not sure if the integrated graphics on my machine are hampering my efforts. Just reinstalled Win 98 SE but can't run in higher resolution than 800 x 600 like I could before. What did I do that I'm not doing now??? Have to fix this before my wife will use it (and I get to build a monster machine). Help me Obi Wan...

you may be able to go into the control panel and search for new hardware and it may recognize it. if not, go to www.downloads.com and search for drivers. I am not sure of any better sites off hand, but i know there are some. Are you sure its amoinitoir driver needed? maybe its a video card driver or proper installation??? hope that helps

Monitor situation

Postby Marc » Mon 23 Feb, 2004 2:11 pm

Thanks for the note, Keith. I can't quite figure this out since I had the thing sunning smoothly for 2.5 years in hi res. Will check out download.com, however, and see what I can come up with. Many thanks from a fellow Canadian. So close to home, and yet so far....

One more question...

Postby Marc » Mon 23 Feb, 2004 2:19 pm

Can anyone tell me how to identify the chip set on my motherboard? There are several driver updates for certain chipsets that may have the drivers I need but I'm not sure which one to get.

Thanks for any help!

It should be in the book that came with your motherboard..
or
take the serial number off of the board and go to www.google.com and search for the chipset

Use Aida 32. It will tell you exactly what motherboard you have, and what chipset. Then you just Google for that motherboard and get the appropriate drivers for your onboard video. Mu ch easier than looking in the case!

If the control panel knew what the hardware is, it would have already installed the appropriate drivers.
