Stupid computer-related quotes

Postby hartlandcat » Thu 23 Oct, 2003 2:30 pm

Lets have a stupid computer-related quotes thread. I know I've had a few of these on MozillaZine, but since I've officially left there, I thought it would be nice to have one on here.

Whoops, there's a bit too many here!
Windows ME is the most stable version of Windows.

Mozilla and such are riddled with security holes!
Not sure of the statistics with browsers, But if it's like other open source like Linux, the most un-secure OS out there! Open source browsers are hardly safer then IE!

Internet Explorer has much better support for W3C standards than Netscape.

Netscape is holding the web back.

I have Windows ME. It seems quite good.

Last year, Boogie Jack wrote:The other problem is that Netscape is a ways behind IE, Opera, Enigma and almost every other browser out there in implementing the CSS standards. Like, about 2 years behind at the time of this writing. For that reason you should always check to see if your code works in Netscape.

It will just ignore what it doesn't understand, so if it doesn't work you just have to make sure it's still functional. I could just write Netscape friendly tutorials, but there's too much that is just too cool to leave out - besides, why should we be limited by Netscape's limitations, they don't have many supporters any more. Too bad too, it used to be a good browser.

Mozilla is the biggest piece of spyware ever!!!

But any good designer needs a sh#t of money and space on their PC to be able to have these multiple browsers.

The new Netscape is a bit better, but it doesn't allow ad killers.

Why dont you just download IE? It's very good program..

Don't install stuff on the computer, it's gonna get slower and you'll break it.

The reason Apple didn't choose the more advanced Gecko engine was a political one. Apple may be a "fan" of open source, but they are no fan of Linux or of any effort to make desktop Linux more viable. They chose KHTML in order to drive the wedge between the KDE and Gnome camps deeper.

Gnome has a better office-suite than KDE does! Just compare OpenOffice to KOffice!

I would state that most (if not all) of the quotes by Hartlandcat above, are not correct, especially about the ones involving Netscape, Mozilla, and Linux.

A friend, who is VERY computer illiterate told me "My Windows 98 is MUCH more SECURE and STABLE than your Redhat Linux/XP Pro dual boot machine!" Considering he has anti virus software that hasn't been updated for 6 months or so, he runs no firewall either! On the other hand, I run the firewall on high security in Linux, and have upto date antivirus software in Windows, and I run NIS 2003! Then on top of all this, he thinks his ancient 9x OS is STABLE!

At least he's YOUR friend, not ours.

Seriously though, someone ought to tell him how insecure it is without the use of updated anti-virus and firewall software.

I'm sure he'll realize it when it's too late, and a virus gets into his system.

Shortly before the cable modem was installed, I installed Norton Personal Firewall, as AntiVirus was separately installed, and even while on a dialup for those last few weeks, I was surprised that even on a dialup connection, people's infected systems would still try to get through...

Firewall and anti-virus software have become a necessity.

Indeed it is a necessity. So are the patches Microsoft releases, especially with stuff like the Blaster Worm around.

Exactly -- they were stupid things I'd heard other people say.

Here's another one I heard the other day:
an administrator of another forum wrote:IE was first, therefore all the others stole the idea.

The first graphical web browser was NCSA Mosaic, followed by Netscape Navigator, the most advanced browser in the world at the time.
