Mac G4 Dual - Running Netscape 7 out of both OS 10.3 & 9

Postby lipicai » Mon 19 Apr, 2004 7:28 pm

Or, what about Netscape 7.1/OS 10.3 and Netscape 7/OS 9.2, on same machine? I'm having problems w/ profile/losing mail/mail not opening, etc.

I've got the N7/OS9.2 back up and running correctly, but boy, I sure would like to use OS 10.3 instead.

How to do safely?

Thanks for help!

Hello, don't listen to djv1's advice. You don't need to uninstall Mac OS 9.2.

You can have NS 7.1 (OS X) and NS 7 (OS 9.2) exist in the same machine. However, since the NS 7 (OS 9.2) is for OS 9, it would be run under Mac OS 9 or “Mac OS X Classic Environmentâ€

Mac G4 Dual - Netscape 7 & 7.1 using same profile?

Postby lipicai » Tue 20 Apr, 2004 7:23 am

Not to belabor the point, but what I would *ideally* like to do is be able to use either Netscape, in either OS - but I suppose if the architecture is so different, that would not be possible??

I do want to be able to use OS 10.3, and to use N 7.1 in that environment, rather than 7 in Classic (since a lot of my work software has not X-ed over), but I do switch back and forth.

Should I assume that it is *not* possible to coordinate mail and bookmarks between the two Netscapes? Or is it possibly possible?? (and, of course, if so, how?)

Again, thanks -

hansh,

Which version of Mozilla is that with Apple/Compuware on the end of the UA string?

But can I use TWO versions of Netscape using ONE profile, so that they both show the same mail and bookmarks, and as one is updated, so is the other?

Thx

Still from what I believe, you can't share the same profile.

Netscape profiles are stored in different locations and they have different registry sets. That was the problem.

I have ran CFM Mac Moz (on 9.2.2) and Mach-O Mac Moz (on 10.2.8 - haven't upgraded to :panther: ). They can exist peacefully as long as one is shut down when the other is not running. Profiles are a different matter. OS 9 Moz stored profiles at:

Code: Select all
Documents:Mozilla:[User Profile]:[random string].slt:

OS X Moz stores profiles at:

Code: Select all
~/Library/Mozilla/Profiles/[Profile Name]/[random string].slt/

So, it isn't possible to share profiles with OS9/OSX Moz builds.

Of course. I didn't think this thing through. Profiles are definitely stored in two different places, so it's Either/Or in the browser dept. for us system schizophrenics!

Thanks very much to everyone for their thoughts on this earth-shaking (?!) matter!
