“Get Messagesâ€

Postby frednow » Thu 06 May, 2004 2:19 pm

Over the last week or so, the "get messages" button in mail sometimes just does nothing (nor does command-T from menu). The only fix is to quit NS and relaunch.

I can't imagine why this is happening all of a sudden. I did update my Mac OS from 9.2 to 9.2.2 a few weeks ago, but this new problem didn't start until this past week.

Can anyone please help? I'd be grateful.

Hello? Anyone here who can help with this problem? Too small? Too big? Too ... too?

No one has any advice?

This problem is driving me crazy. I'd be grateful for any help whatsoever, but so far no one has answered.

Please?

I guess no one has experienced it or know how to answer it.

Have you tried a new Netscape profile?

Thanks for your reply Antony.

How do I create a new profile?

Is it a big deal?

What happens to all my email, bookmarks, etc?

Thanks again.

A new Netscape profile will give you a new set of (email) inbox, address book, bookmarks, preferences ... etc. (default values)

Your current bookmarks, addressbook, emails, and old preferences will still be stored in current profile. Won't lost.

Once you have multiple Netscape profiles, each time you launch Netscape, there will be a screen asking you to select your profile.

(I don't have Netscape 7.xx in this PowerBook right now, and it does not boot into OS9. Not sure how accurate would the Classical Environment be for testing.)

Open the Netscape folder and then double-click the Profile Manager.

Thanks again for the replies. If you don't mind, another question or two.

This intermittent problem with my "get messages" button not working all of a sudden (nor its keyboard equivalent) ... is it really the sort of thing controlled or influenced by the profile? In other words, is creating a new profile actually a remedy for this kind of problem or is it just a shot in the dark? No offense intended, and I readily admit I could be totally wrong about this, but it seems kind of drastic.

By the way, when the problem crops up, I can still compose and send messages, if that gives anyone another clue.

Thanks once again.

I don't know.
Since I don't think it is easy to create an non-working environment as you described... a new profile is an educated guess. May work, may not work.

Let us know the results or if you have any other instructions (from other places), so we can provide a better guide.
