Just thought I'd use this opportunity to say that I've finally got Mac OS X installed on myRev A iMac!

All the ppl I'd asked about putting OS X on such one of the earliest iMac's kept saying that it'd be far
too slow to get the best out of OS X, and that I'd need at least a 350Mhz Mac with 256MB min RAM.

Stuff and nonsense! I have 233Mhz with 160MB RAM, in this iMac, and Mac OS X runs just fine.
So far, performance wise, Mac OS X seems just as fast running as Mac OS 9. So far, I like it!

I had do a lot of work before getting Mac OS X installed, such as reformatting and partitioning the
entire HDD into 2 volumes. This meant I had to upload all of my MP3 files, plus various documents
and other files to various webservers where I have web space and/or storage accounts.

After completely deleting the contents of the iMac's HDD, I used the Disk Utility on the Mac OS X
installation CD, to setup 2 equal sized partitions of 2GB each on the 4GB, one for the Mac OS X
installation, the other for Mac OS 9.x (aka Classic) .

I then had to re-boot the computer using the original iMac software install CD, from which was which
installed the now somewhat antiquated Mac OS 8.5. (I do have OS 9.0 on CD, but for some strange
reason the computer would not boot from it. If it had, I would have installed OS 9.0 first.)

After Mac OS 8.5 was completely installed, I inserted the Mac OS 9 CD into the iMac's CD-rom
drive, and I then proceeded to install the version 9.0 Macintosh system software from that.

Once Mac OS 9.0 had been installed, I then went to Software Updates section the Apple website
to download the 71MB Mac OS 9.1 update. Once I'd finished downloading the Int. English version
of the 9.1 update, I double clicked the installer file, only to find, a few stages into the setup,
that I actually had the North American English Mac OS 9.0 installed. This meant that I had
to go back to the Apple website for another 71MB download of the Mac OS 9.1 update
that was compatible with the North American English Mac OS 9.0 that I had!

Once I had finally downloaded the compatibleMac OS 9.1 update, and successfully installed it,
it was then time for the most important part of this whole exercise. Installing Mac OS X 10.0!
(Bought it for £30 off eBay UK! What a bargain!)

About thirty minutes later, and I finally had a fully functional installation of Mac OS X. I then
went to Software Update, in the System Preferences area, to see what was the most up
to date version of Mac OS X I could get. It turned out it was Mac OS X 10.0.4.

Only problem I have now, is that both Mozilla, Netscape 7.0, and my favourite Mac based music
player iTunes, all require that at least Mac OS X v10.1 to be installed, and that update cannot
be downloaded from anywhere! So it's back to eBay I go, to see if I can get a second user
copy of the Mac OS X v10.1 update. Eventually, I got a copy from eBay UK for a tenner.

(Mozilla 1.0 does work with Mac OS X 10.0, but not before displaying a warning dialog that it
works best with OS X 10.1. Mozilla 1.0 does crash rather frequently under Mac OS X 10.0.)

So you see DJGM, the iMac is the best there is . . .
I use the new G4 with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.2.2.

In my old iMac 233, i have delete MacOs 8.6 and set up MacOS X
with 64MB of RAM . . . it is well slow, but it is working fine . . .
maybe I'll do an upgrate for more ram in it.
