Retrieving old sent emails

I need to retrieve emails that I sent on my Mac from a few years ago. I know that the cops and FBI etc.. can retrieve these and that nothing is ever really permenantly deleted (unless it's important for work or something). Does any one have an idea as to how to go about retrieving my old sent messages? Thanks

In the case that it was a few years ago,
1) The messages have obviously expired from your Sent folder, and
2) Chances are your temporary files have been erased.
You may be able to contact your ISP and see if they have your messages on file, although that is a very rare chance. Still, you may get some results.
