Phoenix 0.4 (Oceano) Released!!

Postby orizng » Wed 30 Oct, 2002 3:43 am

Get it from:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/phoenix/releases/0.4/

Important Notice before Installation:
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST create a new profile for Phoenix 0.4. We made changes to several items including pop-up whitelisting which are not compatable with the 0.3 and even recent nightly profiles. To create a new profile start Phoenix by running phoenix.exe -ProfileManager and click on the "Create Profile" button. You must also delete your old Phoenix directory rather than just overwriting the files there. Not doing so WILL result in problems and you should not file any bugs on Phoenix unless you've first done a clean install and tested on a new profile. As Phoenix stabilizes more this will not be necessary but until then these steps are absolutely necessary.

Now some themes have been designed for Phoenix:
http://themes.mozdev.org/phoenix

Seems Phoenix will take a different way from Mozilla, see, Marquee come back!
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021029 Phoenix/0.4
Whatever,whatever,have a nice day.

It is very interesting with the customizing , which is very forgiving, allowing me to clean up the mess which I made. It is really shaping up.
Make sure to have a space between phoenix.exe and -ProfileManager.

Sounds intresting. I'll start trying it out version 0.5 or 0.6, when I know it wont be as buggy as Mozilla or Netscape :)

Then, forget about it, till much later., if you think that Mozilla and Netscape is buggy. Phoenix has a way to go, but, it is eminently usable, and getting smaller with every build.

Try Phoenix, and you will not regret.

I haven't used it on my XP Home machine. On my parent's antcient Win98 machine, 0.4 works well. I'm surprised in a way. The last time I used a Moz based browser on this machine, it crashed.

Does anyone think that Mozilla version later than 1.1 really faster than 1.0.1? Someone said that phoenix is faster than NS, but I can not agree.

Faster when? LOading itself or surfing? I do not think that there is any obvious difference.

IMO, Netscape just adds a ton of useless sh#t to Mozilla that nobody needs. Mozilla nightlies all the way!

You %@t* on the head, but Phoenix could be better.

Does Phoenix have a mail/news program?

No.

Phoenix is a standalone browser only. There is work in progress for a standalone
version of the mail and news client from Mozilla, which will be called "Thunderbird"

So do Mozilla nightlys, if you don't use Mail/News, or some of the more advanced features like DOM Inspector or Venkman.

Phoenix is the best option for those who ONLY use the browser, IMHO.

I have found the UI to be more responsive to better written XUL, and marginally quicker startup time. YMMV, however.

I just wonder if the designer of phoenix is a fan of HOMM,since they use phoenix and thunderbird for the browser and mail client. Maybe they will then make out a composer named "Titan"??
BTW:We've got a power off today in whole University,so this is not my computer, and I can not find NS or Moz,sigh
