How Do You set Up an Email Account on Netscape 7.1 ?

Postby Sunshine » Tue 29 Jun, 2004 12:55 am

I just downloaded Netscape 7.1 and attempted to set up an email account , but had to find out my incoming and outgoing email servers.

My ISP provider is MSN. I also have a MSN 9 Browser. When setting up the Netscape Email account, do I put pop3.email.msn.com or do I put pop3.email.netscape.net? pop3 is my incoming server. My outgoing server is smtp. So for the outgoing server should I put smtp.email.msn.com or smtp.email.netscape.net? I don't know which to use. I am very eager to get the Netscape email account set up and would really appreciate your help.

Thanks

You use, assuming a normal POP setup, the actual server addresses, as given to you by your ISP, for the incoming and outgoing servers. Contact your ISP for the exact, complete listing of both servers. Do not alter the addresses to include the word "netscape." (Netscape's WebMail account is entirely different as it uses Netscape servers unlike your normal POP account.)

See Ramona's Mail Account Setup •• Screenshots for pictures of the mail setup.

Come back here with more info or questions if things do not work out.

I thought that MSN used special authentication services in it's Mail service (MSN Authentication, new feature in Mozilla 1.7)

You have to make sure that you can set up MSN with an outside mail client.
http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/1674hq.html tell you how to deal with problem e-mail accounts, in Eudora. Conceivably, if you can set the mail up in Eudora, you should be ablre to set mail up in Netscape/Mozilla
It works well in Moz1.7, or Thunderbird, with AOL as an IMAP account, sending by the unusual port 583.
But, I know next to nothing about MSN. There are ways to get MSN with third party software. http://www.izymail.com/

How can I use Mozilla to access (i.e. send and receive email from) my MSN account?
A prerequisite for using MSN email with Mozilla is that you need to have a paid MSN account, i.e. you either use them as your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or you subscribe to MSN as an add-on to your regular Internet Service (many Cable providers offer MSN on top of their Internet Access). If you only use MSN'S free services, you will need a third-party program like e.g. Hotpopper to access your MSN email with Mozilla.
If you do subscribe to MSN, you will need to use Mozilla 1.7b or up since older versions do not support MSN authentication. Please consult MSN's help pages for the correct server settings and you should be able to use your MSN email account with Mozilla Mail.

So,... you'll need Mozilla 1.7 or the soon-to-be-released Netscape 7.2 which will be based on Mozilla 1.7.
