I just hope that they come up with ways to disable the stupid thing.
I can do better than Microsoft about Security, e-mail protection, and the other stuff!
I am not looking forward at SP2.

After reading that this is more of an upgrade rather than an update, it makes me wonder if this is going to be our "WinXP Reloaded" release. After all, it seems a whole lot like the transition between 98 and ME where most of the features will be downloadable for other Microsoft OSes other than SP2.

All the more reason to "make the switch". :tux:

I for one will not upgrade to this SP until I read reports on exactly what it did.

As a good a distro as SuSE Linux 9 or 9.1 is, it's still not as user-friendly as Windows XP IMO. (I still can't believe all the problems users on this forum have had with SuSE 9.1!)

Windows XP Reloaded is not actually a product, but more of a marketing push to show the changes that have been to Windows XP since it's launch back in late-2001. You can find more information about 'Windows XP Reloaded' here.

Information on SP2 and what it does can be found here and here.

Speaking of Linux, I find MandrakeLinux to be quite user-friendly in my opinion. Fedora Core will do as well. As for Windows XP SP2, I'm really interested in what exactly did it do to make some people very dissatisfied first before installing it. Basically, that's what Edward is doing.

We went a little off topic, sorry about that. Anyway, like what Edward was saying, we should wait until there are further reports about Windows XP SP2.

What's not good about it? It includes a much better firewall, a new version of WindowsUpdate and is much more secure.

The only item I have heard of that appears to be in stone, is that the Windows firewall is turned ON by default in SP2.

Personally, I do not use it, I'm happy with Zone Alarm 5 (now that they have fixed the anti-virus related issue).

I just hope that we get a warning.
Now, will have to look on how to disable Automatic windows Update. I reall don't trust it anymore than Linux, of which there are so many manifestations that you can be very happy, or clobbered.
