[Laserlight]

Hi,

Today I instaled Firefox 0.9 (browser only) and uninstalled it.
I downloaded it from http://ftp.scarlet.be/pub/mozilla.org/f ... up-0.9.exe
I did the uninstall with W'98 start > software> uninstall

Then I checqued my mail.......and ALL my accounts, mailboxes were
gone.
I closed Eudora, when I did start is again it started like I just were
a first user.Even the paid mode registration was gone.
Everything is totaly lost.

With Norton rescue I could find a lot of mailboxes back.But the .MBX files of OUT,IN and ATTACH are gone ?
In the ATTACH map,there are realy importand files.

The Fire fox and Eudora stood in the same Program Files map.
With un-installing from Firefox I choose to for total uninstal.
It's Eudora 6.0.1.1. does somebody knows what happened, and if I can
find something back on my PC ( W '98 Celeron 500Mhz.)

Have you installed (or un-installed) anything else besides the Firefox?
I don't think Firefox has anything to do with mails.

There is no logic behind this. Firefox 0.9 is a Navigator only program, i.e. it has no mail of its own. I succeeded in linking it with my default mail program.
You say that you did the uninstall, using Software|Innin stall. I guess you mean the Add/Remove.
I can't see any possibility of even making a mistake, as Firefox is listed as Mozilla Firefox. Otherwise, it would be listed alphabetically right below Eudora.

Do you mean you installed Firefox to the same directory as Eudora? Perhaps both of them in C:\Program Files ? You may have been screwed by bug 233625. The uninstaller in Firefox 0.9 (and earlier) deletes everything in the directory to which Firefox was installed.

You really do want to install Firefox into its own program directory. Of course, hindsight isn't much help. If this is what happened to you, the files have been deleted and backups or a recovery program like Norton Rescue is your only hope. I believe some sort of preventative measure is scheduled for the 1.0 release. Apologies for the destruction 0.9 caused you.

Personally I use the .zip files, not the installer.

Wouldn't that wipe out everything in c:/program files? Why pick on Eudora?

Yes youre Right.
I installed it on my D HD > program files.
In the program files map on HD D were also Spybot and DU meter which
I had to install also again!!!

Do you have a sugestion with what freeware program I could get the ,MBX and .doc files back ?

Sorry, I don't. Recovery of deleted files doesn't always work. I would expect Norton to do as thorough a job as could be done, and I'd hope Eudora itself could perhaps recover using redundant data, if any. But I haven't used Eudora in years. Perhaps someone else has a suggestion.
