This is the world's thinnest desktop personal computer - 2".

We can see the PowerBook G5 won't be long, just cut another inch off and put the keyboard in :-)

That's one slick machine :) It's a shame that they only come with 256mb of ram in the stock configuration - 512mb would have been much better.

I like this iMac!!! I do think 512 MB would be a good idea on the RAM.

Once again, Apple excel themselves with yet another beautifully designed computer!

Now I just need to go out and find UK£919 (Apple UK price) so I can get myself one!

from C|net News.com,
Previous models included the iMac G4, introduced in 2002, whose swing-arm-mounted flat screen drew comparisons to a desk lamp, and the first-generation CRT-based machine from 1998, whose form is still emulated by the eMac. This time around, the company has created a profile that emulates that of Apple's iPod digital music player when mounted inside its docking cradle.

In spite of the slim profile, Apple squeezed a fair amount of power into the machines. All three of its models include a G5 processor, otherwise known as IBM's PowerPC 970, while two come with Apple's SuperDrive DVD burner.

Apple is billing the new design as "enchanting" and is looking for it to have an impact in the desktop market similar to the one the wildly popular iPod has had in the music player sector.

> Apple puts the squeeze on new iMac (C|new News.com)

The first generation CRT-based iMac was introduced in July 98,
the flat-panel (swing-arm) iMac introduced in January 2001,
now, "the display is the computer" approach has just announced.

This new model looks more user-serviceable than the previous flat-panel iMac was.

I wish that it had a built-in SCSI interface. :P
Otherwise, I can't reasonably find much to fault in this impressive new computer. Wish I could afford one...
