Installing Linux on Mac G4 OS 9.1

Postby stevejobz » Wed 03 Nov, 2004 10:18 am

I have two hard drives. I wanted to use the secondary for Linux.

I was given a bootable CD of Linux Mandrake 8.2 .

I tried to boot with it (holding C at start) but it didn't work. In the startup disk window, the system does not read the cd with a start up system.

Can I do it?

Or do I need OS X.

In the disk Setup I even formated the secondary disk in two partitions, 1 linux Home and the other Mac OS Extended.

How can I install it?

thanks

The Mandrake Linux CD you're using . . . is it the version made for PowerPC (PPC) or for x86?

Your Mac will only boot from the PPC version. If you have the x86 version, it will not work.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
