SKYPE - an essential and 'wonderful' piece of Freeware

Postby Blackbeard » Wed 13 Oct, 2004 10:56 am

Not sure which is the best forum to post this tip but the future maybe just arrived as far as internet telephony goes.......................

Want to call your friends PC to PC as if they were standing next to you for free???? ot PC to telephone anywhere in the world for a fraction of what you pay even on budget calling cards...................

Very user-friendly, spyware and adware-free piece of software that runs much like Messenger with dialing capability built in...........

- enough said,yet?????

http://www.skype.com

Take this as a serious 'thumbs up' from one who rarely gives a positive review about anything reallly!!!!!!! - best of all it's not made by Microsoft!!!!! ;-)

Skype gets a thumbs up from me also, even though I haven't used it much. It's well worth a look,
and certainly beats bog standard instant messaging hands down. It's totally cross platform too.
There are versions of Skype freely downloadable for Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux.

If you have a mic and speakers (or a headset) connected to your computer, give it a whirl!
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040916
SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

SKYPE - an essential and 'wonderful' piece of Freeware

Cool to hear from someone back in the 'old country' - and a mancunian at that!!! - phrases like bog standard have a habit of cheering you up when you've not heard them in a while!!!!!!

Thanks for filling in the Cross Platform omision - clean forgot about it....

Only been using SKYPE for 24 hours but am amazed its not splashed all over the Web instead of all those useless Spyware tools we keep getting bombed with!!!!!

I think this tool can only gey better and from what I can see they're working on integrating webcam into the product too.................... I can see messenger becoming redundant before too long............. Have you had a look at Longhorn yet............... That's exactly where I'm going to keep it!!!! Pinje Rotten like all things Microsoft............... Incidentally what version of messenger do you use?????? I have MSN6.2 but am sure there's probably etter out there..............

VIVA SKYPE!!!! and I wish them well with future development of a great product......... Another useful freeware tool I wcan reecommend for anyone in the design game is a font manager from blacksun software, called x-fonter. One cool way to view your fonts in that incessant strugle to keep the system number below 500!!!!!! Great interface and built in installer and remove actions.......... It amazes me why we pay for tools which are often far lest capable and full of bugs!!!! Guess it's the Corporate Machine in Operation!!!!!!

Guess thats why I'm no longer living in Ireland - screwed totally by both the Government, Utilities and The Corporate Mongrels to boot!!!! Can't function if it's not cost effective!!!!

Cheers!!!!!! and hope all is well in Manchester, UK

well, I haven't got anyone to chat with me over the Skype,

Without a doubt, Apple's iChat AV does it better than any other online instant messaging (with audio or video). And, iSight is extremely clear :-)

With iSight are we talking instant messenger or broadband telephony service................... reason I ask is that I think Skype would take a lot to beat, but since I am considering mega strongly a migration away from all things PC - especially with another Microsoft Monstrosity in the offing I want to keep my options open and would welcome any recommendations for the Mac platform in terms of add-ons etc......

Thanks for the comment though Anthony - btw. removed iTunes from my PC as its a bit jumpy when you open or change visualisations.............. Prefer to go it with winamp 5 for music.Power DVD for Movies and Media Player or Real Player for most other media......................... Guest my handful of PC's days' ar numbered................................

You don't need broadband for iChatAV.
