Problems with netscape webmail

Postby conorjmcn » Wed 27 Oct, 2004 7:28 am

Hi
I have netscape webmail account which works fine when I log on through http://webmail.netscape.com but it no longer works when I try and add it as an account in the Netscape Mail tool.
I am using netscape 7.2.

I get through all the following stages,
edit->mail&newsgroup accout settings
->add account
->netscape webmail
->existing webmail account
->screen name, password
->your name
After this point it spends a long time trying to connect and then it returns the following message
Mailbox Creation Failed
Webmail server error. We are not able to create a mailbox for your Screen Name at this time. However, we successfully registerd your Screen Name. Please vist http://webmail.netscape.com to complete your mailbox creation.

Could please give some advice on how to fix this problem?

Conor.

When it is trying to connect, quickly click on "cancel." This will allow the new account to be created.

I"M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM...

I recently bought a new laptop and tried to setup my existing netscape webmail account on Netscape 7.02 and would repeatedly get the same message as you said. Though now I'm getting "please try again later... because the registration server is not available at this time"...i dunno why it's giving me this message other than it's late at night now or something. I've tried hitting cancel but maybe that's only supposed to work with the "mailbox creation failed" error message. Should I download to 7.2 even though it obviously also has the same problem?
If anyone is having the same problem or has any tips or advice any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

oops i made a mistake in my post. I got confused...my netscape browser is 7.0 and I assumed the netscape mail was the same version but is 7.2 like the first post had.

There is a workaround for this problem. See http://www.holgermetzger.de/efaqmailnews.html#27

I don't know about that error but,
Here is the workaround I used for the "Mailbox Creation Failed" error when setting up an existing webmail account in Netscape 7.x mail, FWIW

From a MAIL window, go to Edit > Mail&newsgroup Account Settings.
Click on Add Account > Netscape Webmail account > "I have an existing account".

Enter the screenname and password for the existing netscape.net account under "Current Member sign-in". The Netscape Mail Setup window should appear, asking for the name you want to appear in the "from" field.

After typing in your name, click the Next button, and wait a few seconds after the "connecting to server" message appears, then click "Cancel". Then click "Next", then "Finish" and the Netscape Webmail account will be set up in Netscape 7.x Mail.

I don't understand this one at all. What is this about Netscape and Mozilla sharing profiles? I tried it, and, indeed the Webmail set up appeared in Moz1.7.3. I filled in the info, and I was never prompted for a password. I just seem to have found another place to get the no login error.
By the way, I had two Webmail accounts set up in NS7.2, and working fine.
The one I set up in Mozilla is still around. The other one disappeared. When I set it up again in NS7.2, it gave me the login error immediately.
Now, I hope that I can get things back to normal.

Sanity vwas restored after removing the ISP directory from the Moz1.7.3 directory. I was able to reenter the account which had disappeared, and it is working.
And, yes there was sharing between Moz and NS, but counterproductive. I notice this when I set up only one account in Moz, and the other account disappeared in NS7.2. When, I reentered the second account, It appeared in both programs, except that I get the error in both, and the sign on request does not come up. Kind of disappointing, and surely no answer.
I hope that Holger will be back to explain

But, on the other hand my AOL addresses seem to be partly screwed up in NS7.2 only, at this time. I have not checked the AOL settings in the Mozillas or thunderbird. In fact I don't any button in the Server Settings to select the Outgoing server with Netscape Webmail nor AOL, nor can I add the aol server.
Holger where are you?
I will wait till tomorrow, and then will have to take this thing apart.
NS7.1 works fine.

web mail login problems

Postby ernest3 » Thu 18 Nov, 2004 5:50 pm

I have had problems not being able to get into my AOL webmail (username@netscape.net) since 11/11/04 - when I tried to login, I was redirected to the www.netscape.net home page. I did get a message a few days ago that the webmail was not working (once), but it just kep redirecting me to the netscape home page as of the last few days with no error message. Fix: I was finally able to log in after uninstalling netscape 7.2 and moxzilla 1.0 - I did not try to uninstall them separately. My Internet Explorer took 2 trys to log in and still did not operate exactly as expected.

Ernest,

I never use webmail for AOL, but I use the set up in Netscape or Mozilla or Thunderbird. It has worked fine all along/.
I had some problems only right after using the apparent fix.
If you need help setting up AOL in Netscape mail, I can help you. Just start a new thread and make a reference to this post. http://sillydog.org/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&t=7414

But, I just tried http://webmail.aol.com and all I had to do was to enter my password, and was in.

I can't get into one of my Netscape WebMail accounts this evening. It keeps telling me the username and/or password are invalid.

If I try logging in with it via AIM, I get a message that the signon is "blocked" and when I click "More Info", I get a web page with this:

Your Screen Name is blocked from signing in to the AIM service.

Your Screen Name is blocked from signing in to the AIM service.

There are several reasons why you may have received this message:

Screen Names that were previously used on AOL but have been cancelled or suspended, can no longer be used on AIM. This includes both master accounts and sub-accounts. In order to continue using this Screen Name on AIM, please reactivate the account on AOL.

AOL Screen Names that have one or more of the following Parental Controls set will no longer able to use AIM, even if they have previously been able to do so:
- Instant Messages are Blocked.
- Kid's Only age category.

To access AIM, the Master Screen Name on the AOL account must go to AOL Keyword: Parental Controls and change the above settings for this Screen Name. In addition, your Screen Name must also be set to one of the following age categories: Young Teen, Mature Teen, or General (18+).

Users who identify themselves as a child under the age of 13 may not use this service at this time. If you are an adult and have entered your birth date incorrectly, you may use a credit card to complete our age verification process now, or anytime within 30 days of the date when you identified yourself as a child. You will not be charged for this credit card verification.

Click here to sign in to our age verification form to reactivate your Screen Name.

An account may be terminated for violations of the terms of service.

I haven't used AIM in quite a long time, but have accessed my Netscape WebMail regularly, so I do not know what the problem could be. If I click the link relating to forgetting the password and input the username, I get a box that the service is not available.

I ran my e-mail address through AIM's Find A Buddy, and the username comes up, but I still do not know what the problem is.

Here we go again. In Webmail where? Website or Netscape? Only one account? Which you used pretty regularly?
Is this only from AIM? I really don't understand how many of the regular channels you have explored. I never, ever use any IM.

It sounds like a problem with the screenname authentication system at AOL's end.

There have been a number of posts on this problem on UFAQ.org's Netscape.net Web-Mail forum - for example:
