If you need the Portugese UI, there is a Portugese (Brazil) language pack for Mozilla 1.0 here, however I do not know if it would work with Mozilla 1.0.1/Netscape 7.0.

As far as I know, there were no major changes between 1.0 and 1.0.1 that would make it unusable, but you would be trying it at your own risk.

I still reckon Netscape for its better documentation.

But it doesn't have better documentation :)

Netscape 7 is better.

Have you checked both word-by-word?
Also go for Netscape for better packaging (branding).

It wouldn't be difficult to do a diff :)

As for branding... That's hardly justification for using it over the vanilla product.

Still, dressing is pretty important these days.

I'll shrug to that, because most of the UI differences between the two can be changed with a trivial amount of effort.

That's because you don't know the importance of the genuine styling (UI).
Other benefits Netscape 7 is a better packaging, unlike Mozilla you will have to install and/or configure by yourself. (whereas Netscape does not want you to change a number of settings.)

Netscape also ships with some settings set horribly insecurely by default - like Javascript enabled in mailnews.

It also ships with some settings *disabled* by default - Ad blocking and Image manager.

As for plugins, with the exception of Realplayer 8.0 on Windows, Mozilla doesn't require any stuffing around either - they're autodetected if they're there.

This can be easily changed. (Preferences)

Hendikins wrote:It also ships with some settings *disabled* by default - Ad blocking and Image manager.
I am not a fan to turn off all pop-ups. A number of websites, including online bankings, won't function correctly if your disable pop-up windows.

Not everyone is well trained like IT experts to do extra complicated jobs. A nice packed products is the best approach.

Clicking the Plugins link from the Mozilla 1.0 start page, and running the installer for a plugin (or using an XPI) isn't rocket science you know... my mother can even do it! (No, she's not an expert... I'd call her close to clueless to be honest ;))

On popups: It disables unrequested popups, not requested ones. You'll find that this isn't a netbanking breaker, because you tend to request the popups you get!

Finally, on default preferences and changing them, you can't honestly tell me that the average user who you say can't install a plugin would be able to navigate Mozilla/Netscape's Prefs UI...

The preferences UI needs a lot of work... Phoenix-style is a start!

I am not just talking about installing a plugin, I am talking about installing all those Addons (like someone who shall remain un-named).

I know the principle, however, just try it yourself when you pay your Telstra bill online.

???

Also, because Netscape 7 is considered a commercial product, unlike Mozilla, a developer's product. Commerical products are being supported in many ways, and more end user frinedly. So back to documentation issue, beside the built-in documentations (wordings and help files), there are online and printed (e.g. booklet) documentations available.

With the exception of priorietry features and P3P support, Mozilla 1.0.1 doesn't need any addons (!= plugins) out of the box to provide the same functionality as Netscape 7.0.

I know the principle, however, just try it yourself when you pay your Telstra bill online.

I use Bpay for that :)

You've got to be kidding if you think Netscape 7.0 is in any way more user friendly than Mozilla 1.0.1, aside from possibly the new tab button in the personal toolbar.

It's using the same UI as Mozilla 1.0.1, with a few hacks to it.

The preferences UI (as example given above) is EXACTLY THE SAME, aside from any parts not being relevant not being shown.

As for printed documentation? 1. It's applicable to Mozilla 1.0.1, and 2. It's not applicable if somebody is just downloading the installer, not purchasing the CD and such like. As for wording of the online documentation, do a diff. You might get a bit of a suprise if you do!

Netscape 7 isn't designed to add addons like those, however, Mozilla is designed as a component, and encourage you to add as many addons as you like and at your own risk.
Also, when did you change to 1.0.1, I thought you were talking about the latest builds.

I use Bpay for that :)
Try the online bill payment one (requires credit card), and you will realise the result.

Certainly it is more user friendly than Mozilla. And the changes in UI does a lot.

1. You are completely wrong. You don't use Netscape 7's documentation for Mozilla. You don't do that.
2. If someone just download the installer, you still have online guides, and PDF guides for printing. I don't have programme for DIFF online documents.

Isn't all software installed at own risk? And yes, Netscape 7.0 is designed to be extended. Netscape provide extensions to the base package themselves in the form of themes.

Also, when did you change to 1.0.1, I thought you were talking about the latest builds.

Comparing apples to apples...

I use Bpay for that :)

1. I don't have a credit card
2. You can use something like the preferences toolbar to quickly enable popups on an as-required basis, certainly better than digging through prefs or not having the functionality at all.

It's using the same UI as Mozilla 1.0.1, with a few hacks to it.
Certainly it is more user friendly than Mozilla. And the changes in UI does a lot.

The changes in the UI are minor - namely the throbber, new tab icon, program icons, a couple of menu items, and the proprietry features.

As for printed documentation? 1. It's applicable to Mozilla 1.0.1, and 2. It's not applicable if somebody is just downloading the installer, not purchasing the CD and such like. As for wording of the online documentation, do a diff. You might get a bit of a suprise if you do!

There's nothing saying you can't look at Netscape 7 FAQs and such like for help with Mozilla - or vice versa for that matter! Netscape link to mozilla.org for most of their development stuff (some via devedge). Might be a reason for this, don't ya think?

2. If someone just download the installer, you still have online guides, and PDF guides for printing. I don't have programme for DIFF online documents.

The online guides (aside from included help file) and PDFs are not included in the installer, invalidating that point.
