A Favor RE Firefox-NS 7.2 If You Please

Postby FrankoSport » Thu 11 Nov, 2004 3:56 am

Greetings ..

At present, I'm not yet able to download Firefox 1.o, but hope to do so soon.

Meanwhile, I was wondering if someone who has both Netscape 7.2 and Firefox 1.o could do me a favor. Could you go to this link ---

PGA Tour 2005 Tournament Schedule

-- and see what occurs using each browser.

Reason I ask is that PGA Tour.Com appears to have an ad-client working on behalf of the SPECIFIC POP Network, and my NS 7.2 doesn't always stop their pop-ups. Conversely, the MS-IE 6-Google Toolbar combo stops those very same pop-ups.

UPDATE
Actually - it seems that when PGATOUR.COM is accessed via NS 7.2 the very first time after 7.2 is first stated, a pop-up occurs. However, no further pop-ups seem to occur on PGATOUR.COM pages (at least so far) UNLESS you exit out of NS 7.2, then start it up again seconds later.

I tested the link, and unlike Netscape 7.2, Mozilla Firefox 1.0 appears to be fairly reliable at blocking the pop-up ad that appears the first time the PGATOUR.COM site is accessed.

I tried fiive times with NS7.2 (open and close), and the popup appeared, but I did not see it thereafter. I could not find any cookie for specificpop, but I sure found four cookies for specificclick.

Greetings ...

Thank you very much. That tells me that at least for now FireFox's pop-up controls are a notch or two above NS 7.2's.

I tested with Safari with pop-up window blocking enabled. No pop-ups.

Then that's pop-down or pop-under...

I have had no popup, or under with NS7.2, after the first time. It may have to do with the the banner advertising. It was a definite popunder, just for the record.

Postby edmartin » Tue 16 Nov, 2004 1:14 am

I have 7.2 installed and checked out ther PGA site and the popup I got was from specificpop but it comes from URL 'adopt.specificclick.net'. If you
have ZONE ALARM firewall, enter the URL in the firewall settings and select
'Blocked'. Now leave the PGA and clear your browser cache. Now go back
to ther PGA site and you should not see that popup again. If you get any
others, right click the popup and get the popup URL and put it in Zone Alarm.
Hope this helps
