XP shortcut keys...trying to set my own

Postby jillpmcd » Thu 18 Nov, 2004 6:38 am

Want to set a keyboard shortcut to open Itunes...and it doesn't take any of my choices - even when those keystrokes don't seem to do anything else. I know it has to be a 3 key combination (unless it's a F key) but those don't seem to activate Itunes when I set them. Is there anyway to make MY keyboard shortcut assignments override what's there? I'd like to use F11 and it doesn't seem to do anything else...but even after I set it in my shortcut properties it does not open Itunes.
I know it's probably OE again...

One unfortunate thing that I have noticed about Windows keyboard shortcuts are that the Windows-related ones are the only ones that work in any window. Say you had your iTunes icon on your desktop and set it to F11. It will only launch if you have your desktop as the active session by clicking on it. I'm not familiar with how to set a Windows key function or, for that matter, a system-wide function, but I'm sure there's a registry hack out there somewhere that will do what you want.

tryng out freeware

Postby jillpmcd » Fri 19 Nov, 2004 6:44 am

Thanks Don, after your reply - I gave up and went and found a freeware hotkeys program to try out. I use lots of keyboard shortcuts at work, and thought it would be nice to be able set shortcuts for stuff I use alot. I hate using the touchpad all the time!
I found this program: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hkcontrol.html
and it is the one I'm trying out, if anyone wants to know how it works. I can't really recommend it yet, or vouch for its safety, ect...did see it mentioned on several download sites I have used before.
