JavaScript Trick for Bravenet Guestbooks

Postby FrankoSport » Thu 23 Dec, 2004 6:33 am

Greetings ...

If any of you here owns a Bravenet GuestBook (or knows a friend who has one), here's a tip involving the Header Display Text.

I have four guestbooks, each in a different account. Changing the Header Display Text involves the laborious task of logging into each account, then going through several steps and procedures to make desired changes.

Recently, I had a brainstorm. Would the guestbook allow for a Javascript link to a file (on my web-site) that contained the desired Display Text and used the Document.Write feature?

Well, I wrote out my J-Script, tested it on my PC, loaded it to my site, then wrote out the full link text and placed that in the Bravenet Guestbook "Edited GuestBook Description" box. NOTE - I left the "Guestbook Title Box" blank on purpose.

IT WORKED PERFECTLY!

Now, all I have to do is make changes right here on my own PC, upload them to my web-site, and BOOM! All 4 Bravenet Guestbooks are updated in a flash!

Here's my Guestbook Demo File, which I use to test all 4 scripts! The underlined purple text is a link to each of the actual guestbook sites.

If you can find other online services to try this with, feel free to go for it!

Thanx-A-Lot and Happy Holidays from Frank

Greetings ...

With regards to the Bravenet Guestbook "Edit Description Box", make sure you click on the CODE bar before inserting the J-Script link text.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Frank, I think you should provide us a link to Bravenet GuestBook.

Greetings --

OK Anthony. Here's a link to one of my actual guestbooks

However, as I stated in the first post, my GuestBook Test Page contains links (any with UNDERLINED Purple Text) to all 4 of my guestbooks.

Thanx-4-Looking and Happy Holidays from Frank-0-Sport
