Problem after defragmenting on Windows ME

Postby Carla Baker » Fri 03 Dec, 2004 1:25 pm

After defragmenting my type print is still very large and I cannot see my whole screen - I can get where I need to go to change but then cannot hit OK because it is off the screen (or out of my sight on the monitor). I've tried everything - what should I be doing? Besides buying another operating system? :(

The only thing I can think of is that your display resolution became messed up somehow, that happens sometimes if you defragment in Safe Mode. Right-click on your Desktop, select Properties, then Settings, there will be a drop-down box on this panel. Try setting 800x600, if that doesn't work, try the next one, etc. I wouldn't reccomend setting 640x480.

You never know. Things like that can happen. Did the changes occur during your run of Defragmenter, or did they start upon restarting?

P.S. On Windows 9x/ME, I would never reccomend running Defragmenter unless you're in safe mode. It's OK to do if you have something that's NT4+-based or higher.

You're welcome. It might not make a difference if you don't do much with your PC, but if you have backgrond tasks like Real Start Center or AOL Instant Messenger running at the same time, Defragmenter will not work right. NT doesn't have this problem becuase it runs everything in separate memory spaces, instead of in one huge chunk of memory.
Did you have any success with my suggestion?
