ETA for DJGM.co.uk to be relaunched?

Postby Andrew T. » Fri 17 Dec, 2004 1:52 pm

Is there an estimated time for when DJGM.co.uk will be relaunched with new content, such as an "about:Browsers" section to cover the dangers of IE and the various, primarily Gecko-based, alternatives?

We seem to have been waiting over a year for the new website to be finished.

To be honest, I've just been to busy, but worry ye not, I haven't abandoned the website. I'm still paying
the annual hosting fees for the webspace and the domain name. (Maybe I should put a PayPal Donation
button on the site when it's re-launched!) Certain non internet related happenings this year beyond my
control, such as a very close family bereavement, have meant that some of my computer and internet
related activities have had to be put on the back burner for a while. Indeed, if it weren't for that
particularly sad event in my life, the website would have been fully re-launched by now, and I'd
probably have a post count of well over 3000 on these forums by now.

Recently, I've been putting together a website for a small company I'm currently working at, and if all
goes well, I might just end up with a full time job there. The company is called Nordic Adventures Ltd.

I do hope, that if I gain full employment in the new year, that I'll have enough time for DJGM.co.uk.

DJGM, do you want this sub-forum to be renamed to DJGM.co.uk or DJGM net?

I think the best thing to do would be to rename this sub-forum "DJGM.co.uk" and to put
all the old "Club Netscape" related threads into a read-only archive sub-sub-forum . . .

Really I found that Club NS's NS Distros very useful. So would you be kind for you to release a stable build of Club NS 7.2 build

Since Netscape 7.2 is getting a bit long in the tooth now with regards to important updates, I think
the next customised browser distro I'll be doing is either Mozilla 1.7.5, or 1.8 when that comes out.

It's highly unlikely I'll be doing a customised distro of Netscape 8.0 (or whatever they decide to
call it) after seeing the absolute god forsaken fugly mess that Mercurial made as the prototype!

I might even have a stab at doing a customised version of Mozilla Firefox as well, if I have time.

I think the newer picture(stop/reload combined, glossy NS icon) in the topic in the about the prototype is still based on Firefox 0.9x. You might want to inculde the 5 most popular themes into your Firefox build

Good news . . . since Nvu has started to support development of XHTML compliant pages, you may
be interested to know that I'm currently working on making all of DJGM.co.uk XHTML compliant.

(By the way . . . I've not uploaded any new pages just yet!)

Update - DJGM.co.uk 1.0 beta 2 is now online.

On the surface, this is only a minor update, as I've just added a little bit of extra info to the front
page, but no actual new content. But under the hood, it is in fact a major update, as the front
page of DJGM.co.uk is now written in 100% compliant XHTML 1.0 Transitional!

When DJGM.co.uk is (eventually) relaunched, I hope to have most (if not all) pages on the
site written in XHTML 1.0 Transitional. Hopefully, it won't require hacks or workarounds
for the site to be displayed properly in Microsoft's poor excuse for an internet browser!

Thanks DJGM,

The new page looks very good. :)

I look forward to seeing the Java-based chatroom and other new features once the site is complete.

Another minor update . . .

DJGM.co.uk is now up to v1.0 beta 3 - now with a live Firefox downloads counter
image on the homepage, which is hyperlinked to (Where else?!?) GetFirefox.com.
