After booting or rebooting XP, it hangs on the Welcome screen and I must ust control+alt+delete to bring up the desktop. Any suggetions for getting around this?

I am assuming you are using windows XP home edition. Heres is how you stop the welcome screen from loading and still have password protection.

1. Go into the control panel
2. Make sure you are in classic view
3. Double click user accounts
4. Click change the way users log on or off
5. Uncheck "Use the welcome screen"

Now you should not have a welcome screen instead you will have a password box at startup and your computer will load faster.
